The service was good (when the lovely waitress waited us), the manager however has some shady practices - he ripped us off by first making us pay, and then showing us the bill (which is of course in greek, understandable). The problem is he charged us for three breads which we didn't eat (we didn't eat them because they were obviously stale), yet they were in the bill (mind you he charged for each bread, which is unusual for Greece. Here they charge 1 euro for a whole pan of bread IF you eat it). When we told him, he tried to explain that he's charging us for the cutlery, plates and table cloth we're using. He went on by saying this is normal for Kavala, and that he even charged us less (by charging us for three breads, instead of four). He further went into unnecessary and quite frankly random excuses like the fact that he's charging less for water than other taverns (like, this wasn't even relevent to the argument). All in all, I won't recommend this place and I hope they fix this unethical and unhygienic practice of reselling old stale bread, charging you for random things (which you are not informed of before hand - cutlery, plates and etc. ((Have you ever been officially charged for something as ridiculous as this? Customers don't care about the price of your cutlery, and even so, you are making every customer pay for the reusable cutlery?)). And in the end if you figure out he's ripping you off he explains he gave you a discount (I didn't even know he was selling us something in the first place). Lastly, the food wasn't good - the salads, fried potatoes, fried cuttlefish were not tasteful, but the fish was...
Read moreIt was our 4th try to get a sit during our visit to Kavala - and the attempt was totally worth it (we finally had luck this time)! The reviews don’t lie - if you want to taste a delicious cuisine like it was cooked at home, with fresh produce and that special homemade taste - this is your place.
I would recommend the wine leave rolls with tzatziki, the chicken with peppers in lemon sauce and a side of fresh baby leaves salad - you won’t be disappointed! The white wine is so rich and has that rich fruity taste. And, of course, the orange sponge dessert that was served on the house that evening- oh, my…that was something I would never forget. I never had such a good orange cake before (and I had many believe me - I have a sweet tooth :)
P.S. To those critics who don’t agree with the taste and such - of course, taste is something very personal but if you are looking for that specific taste of a restaurant style dish, from a famous cook who only serves special dishes that everyone comes to try - I get it. I have been to such places but here you get something else - dishes that remind you of home, that fresh produce taste like it has been cooked by your grandmother at home. The taste of...
