Nice Room, But Disappointing Experience With Staff
We traveled as a family with our baby boy and our dog, and specifically searched for dog-friendly accommodations. After booking, we proactively informed the hosts via email that we would be bringing our dog. They replied, stating that dogs over 15 kg require an additional €10 cleaning fee — which we were fine with, though the weight-based policy seemed arbitrary.
We asked for an extra key card to keep the air conditioning on for our dog while we briefly visited a nearby monastery. They told us they didn’t have one and implied that we couldn’t leave our card in the room unless we were inside — which we found unnecessarily rigid, especially for a pet-friendly place. Still, we stayed polite.
The next morning, a red-haired woman with glasses approached us accusing our dog of breaking a flower pot on the terrace — a place we never visited, and where our dog was never present. When we explained that, her response was, “But your dog is big.” This felt not only rude but discriminatory. She continued by saying we left our dog alone the entire afternoon, although we were gone for just 2.5 hours. As experienced pet owners who have traveled extensively with our dog since she was a puppy (now 4 years old), we found this remark both patronizing and unnecessary.
To clarify, we always ensure her comfort and safety, especially in hot weather, which is why we chose a room with air conditioning in the first place.
Now, about the room itself — it was clean, beautifully designed, and had a lovely view. However, the mattress was too soft, which gave us back pain, and the air conditioning was quite loud, which disturbed our baby’s sleep.
Bottom line: If you are traveling with a dog, we cannot recommend this accommodation due to the unwelcoming attitude of the staff. The property may be nice, but the experience was overshadowed by how we...
Read moreThese are rooms above a restaurant; mine had a lovely view of Meteora.||SERVICE: I didn't encounter bad service anywhere in Greece, but this wasn't a hotel, so service was limited. The hosts were friendly, and available in the restaurant.||ROOM: My room was large, modern and well-renovated. The blinds were closed when I arrived, and I never bothered to open them until shortly before I left, when I discovered the beautiful view. So open the curtains!||BREAKFAST: I did not eat breakfast, but I did have lunch and dinner at the restaurant, which was good, classic Greek food.||PARKING: Available at the restaurant, a little difficult to find. If you are coming from the highway, when you see the hotel, keep driving about 200 meters and look for a small sign on the right indicating where to turn for parking for Rooms Batalogianni. You can park either in the four or so spaces right next to the house or there is an overflow area just about 20 meters further on.||WIFI: no issues.||LOCATION AND SIGHTS: Extremely convenient for seeing Meteora. Kastraki is quieter than Kalambaka. Check times for the monasteries, and the main viewing point on the road (it's listed on Google Maps) was much quieter in the morning than at sunset.||No...
Read moreStayed here with the family during our trip around Meteora and I must say we made the right decision. Everything from the room to the service to the views were above and beyond expectations. Room was spacious, quiet, clean with comfortable beds. As we were three persons, they kindly accommodated us with an extensible couch that was excellent for our needs. Equipped with air conditioning, decent wi-fi, refrigerator and safe. Bathroom small but spotless. Parking spaces available behind the main building, just ask the owner how to get there. We decided to dine in the same place and glad we did so as the service and meal were impeccable. Breakfast was tasty, cheap and cheerful with the same personal note that we've become accustomed in Greece: peaches picked from the owner's own orchard. The surroundings speak for themselves, if you have a car you can drive yourself around the active monasteries (make sure to consult each one's timetables as they differ an some are closed on certain days!) If you don't have a car, there is a tour agency 2 minutes walking distance from the guesthouse that accommodates guided tours of the monasteries. Great place with...
