Although our experience wasn’t that great I do want to start by saying that the staff were very friendly and more than happy to speak English with us (probably because we speak Greek so poorly, but alas we tried). The food on the other hand was much worse honestly than we expected, even for a tourist area. We got a Greek salad and bread to start. The bread was stale and obviously warmed with a bit of water, but the outside was still very stale. The salad itself wasn’t the worst but the vegetables tasted freezer burnt or sorta like the refrigerator and the feta wasn’t to my taste (but that can be entirely preference tbh). After that my partner had pastitsio which was really bland tbh and lukewarm. The ground beef inside also looked a bit old and weird. Seriously could’ve used some salt or some form of flavor. I had souvlaki with fries and rice and the only thing I really ended up eating was the fries. The souvlaki was cooked enough, so no raw chicken, but again no flavor, needed salt, and came with this weird sweet lemon sauce on top when really just a squeeze of a lemon slice would’ve been better. They did finish our meal with complimentary dessert which was a little chocolate and vanilla ice cream pop like a magnum so that was nice. Still, wouldn’t recommend. Especially because you’re paying tourist prices for less than tourist...
Read moreI only went in because i was caught on top of the mountain by a thunderstorm. Thunder everywhere…. Ran into a restaurant that was opened.
Weirdest vibes as some old guy kept staring at me and the owner came out at his table also stating at me like super crazy….. like To the point of intimidation. While I'm literally the only person there sitting across the room in a corner. And the Only people i know who stare like this are gangsters and criminals who do jail time. Literally felt like i was in a prison cafeteria
And out the kitchen. Like guys were called out… all wearing track suits and vests…. Like NOT restaurant attire, or cooking wear… and they came out the back kitchen. Like nobody but the poor lady serving me looked like they were there to actually work. 100% sure i had greek lamb at a village mob restaurant
Im sure its fine to visit during the day…. when the wise guys are out sleeping and the actual staff are working. But if its raining or a week day night stay away unless you would like to take part in a godfather atmosphere… Having eaten at hundreds of restaurants in toronto, Montreal, lisbon and athens this was by far the most and maybe the only time ive been intimidated so intensely in a...
Read moreExcellent dinner at this family-run taverna and grocery store. Husband and I shared spicy feta dip, the Efronsino Salad and the grilled local sausages, bread basket and water.
Service was excellent and the food was superb! In some towns with lots of tourists the restaurants don't have a lot of incentive to serve tasty meals knowing they'll likely never see their customers again, but at Efronsino I applaud them for making the effort to impress!
The Efronsino salad was large, fresh and delicious. The dressing is a balsamic with mustard and a third “secret ingredient” and is light but enough to be an entree.
The locally made sausages are outstanding. When you're in Kastraki come here for lunch or dinner. If you need water, some snacks for your day exploring the monasteries, or some locally-made products like honey, soaps, or olive oils, stop the shop at the rear. Lovely patio that's shaded in the late afternoon and evening, plus a large fan for extra air flow. High chairs...
