Highly recommended! We’ve walked down to this restaurant from Niko sea side resort as the weather was overcast and wasn’t too hot. Archontiko was some amazing views of the sea and mountains in the background. We was lucky enough to get a table overlooking the sea. The food was amazing, I had the small cheese pie (which is fried dumpling with goats cheese inside, moussake and my wife had chicken gyros. We had house wine and local beer as well. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn and it absolutely chucked it down along with thunder and lightning (we was undercover, and they do put sides up to prevent rain coming in). As a compliment, the waiters offered us dessert for free, but we was happy to pay. My wife had the baklava and I had lemon sorbet. She was offered a cognac to go with hers for free and I was offered a shot of vodka. The owner by the looks of it, who tells me he doesn’t drink alcohol, poured the vodka into my sorbet and suprisingly, it was nice and refreshing with a zing of alcohol. Very reasonable priced, no doubt this restaurant looks amazing at night. Friendly staff as well which is always a bonus and they don’t seem to pester passer by unless of course you’re looking at the menu. Yamas!

What an amazing place with incredible food and super great service! We travel a lot and just love when we come across a place like this. It’s sometimes really hard to find somewhere great to eat but this place will not disappoint you. We all loved the food and my 6 year old daughter even said they were the best steamed mussels she’s ever had, which I totally agree with. The grilled prawns are a must to try. Bursting with sweet flavour, huge and partially de shelled so you don’t have to mess around too much. All on a bed of veg. Salmon linguine was also amazing, as so was the local bread, olives, tzatziki. Their house wine was so much better than what we tried at our hotel. The staff were super friendly and gave us great service and advice on what’s what on their menu. Thank you so much for that. Did I mention an incredible view and a beach where you can dip in just next door?! I would definitely highly recommend this place. Wish I could spend more time there, enjoy the view and try everything from their menu.

Would just like to start by saying this would've been a 5 star review with a 10€ tip right up until the end. We visited Archontiko as I saw it was voted 1 on trip advisor and had good reviews on Google. Food was absolutely delicious, we had the fish roe salad (dip) and pitta bread to start. We then ordered the grilled dorado, moussaka and a greek salad (all to share). We also had a carafe of red wine to share and a large bottle of still water. Service was great throughout. We asked for the bill and then received a shot of raki each and some fruit on the house. We said we were paying by card which the main (I would say owner/manager) came over and stated "about 80€ euro pay" first of all didn't give a difinitive number but also I had added this up as we decided what we want to which came to 58€ so knew that this was wrong. So I said to him I thought it should be about 58€ to which he just replied the same "no 80€" so I asked to see the bill which he hadn't actually given us and I said this wasn't right, before I actually had time to look at it he took it off me and went back to the restaurant, came back and said no this is accurate. So he began to read it back alongside the actual order to which he realised the most expensive dish had been added on twice... (we were also charged for two pittas and when it came it did look like a large portion but we had only asked for one as we had ordered a lot already). He then apologised and then said "you pay 90€ on card and I give 22€ back". What a joke. He said the extra 10€ which had been added already been added on was a service charge. Bare in mind we had already decided we were going to give 10€ tip before they decided to rip us off so instead my partner said no we will pay 60€ cash and that's it. Really soured the experience which is a shame. Make sure you check your bill if you do decide to go here. You may think the extra may have been an accident but he was quite rude when I politely said it wasn't right and this is the only restaurant out of all 7 we have gone to this week which hadn't given the itemised bill before paying...

I had one of the worst dining experiences at this taverna in Agios Nikolaos. Despite being the most expensive meal we had in the area, the quality was absolutely appalling. The house white wine was the worst I’ve ever tasted – almost undrinkable. The octopus was over-grilled to the point of being unrecognizable, lacking the tenderness you’d expect. The vegetables were completely bland, lacking any seasoning, and the salad tasted like it came straight out of a tube. Even the baked pita bread seemed to be reheated rather than freshly made. The Greek feta salad was another huge disappointment. The feta’s quality was shockingly poor, especially when compared to other restaurants in the area. As for the dessert – in Greece, it’s customary to receive a small treat at the end of your meal. In other restaurants, we were treated to delightful, handmade pastries that tasted wonderful. Here, we were given nothing but a couple of old watermelon slices and a few grapes, presented in the most unenthusiastic way possible. I truly don’t understand how this place has received so many positive reviews, but I suppose it always depends on who’s doing the rating. Maybe we just had a bit of bad luck, but this is not a place I would recommend or ever visit again.

Tucked amidst a lively array of restaurants, Archontiko welcomed us with its quiet, unassuming charm. No hustling to get us in, just a warm smile. My partner and I, intrigued, decided to settle here and indulge in some mezes. The service was heartfelt, with a father-daughter duo attending to us, guiding our choices to a splendid spread of tzatziki, traditional meatballs, and smoked fish. As we relished the authentic flavors, the serene sea view and gentle breeze amplified the homely ambiance. The tranquil setting, devoid of any rushing traffic, added a serene backdrop to our delightful meal. Archontiko is more than a meal stop; it's a peaceful retreat into authentic Greek culinary heritage. The familial service, traditional fare, and the calm seaside vibe meld into a heartwarming dining experience that's as comforting as the Greek classics on the menu. If you're around and yearn for a slice of traditional Greece with a homely touch, Archontiko is undoubtedly the spot to hit!

Absolutely the best traditional Crete restaurant in Agios Nikolaos. Sadly we didnt visit this restaurant before the last couple of days of our holiday. It's the only place we've been where the staff doesn't seem stressed all the time and ignore you the second you've made your order. It's the only place they ask if you want bread for starter or not. All other restaurants just serves you bread the charges you for it. The owner and her father are the must polite, friendly and nice ppl we've met so far in Crete. The food is amazing and the price is fair. We immediately booked table for the evening after our first visit for the next evening. The view of the sea is amazing and the atmosphere is amazing. If you go out and eat in Agios Nikolaos you HAVE to visit this place - trust me you will make another booking after you're first visit here. Oh and their English is perfect!
