If you cruise up and down the strip of restaurants in this busy little bay there are some that look sharp and some that look shabby. Ofou to lo is just right - simple, clean, efficient and busy. It's right on the end of the strip with knockout views. The staff are super friendly. They work incredibly hard and everything is bustling and efficient. Lovely food (our Tuna steaks and seafood pastas were great) and as most of the restaurants we visited in Crete, bang on for value. We found ourselves constantly getting jealous when watching other tables receiving their dishes which is always a good thing. Reserve if you want to sit at the waters edge but frankly all tables get a cracking view of the bay and those gorgeous mountains across the Mirabella to the east as light fades in the evening. A lovely dessert of Cretan yogurt and honey was all I could manage after a huge main course and the staff brought our table a gift of some really tasty fresh fruit which again tasted superb (why in the UK are we so mean spirited in portions??). In summary - would highly recommend and would very happily return. Sorry no pikkies, was too...
Read moreSituated just off the main drag of Ag Nik, past the "beach" and before the marina, but occupying a superb view of the second bay, Ofou To Lo offered up a marvelous home cooked menu that filled my gastronomic with heart joy.
Two little tasters of olive tapanade & tomato chutney came with bread, before a home mixed Taramasalata - grey not pink, just as it should be - and not too salty, good too - got the taste buds humming. Cretan red wine from Iraklion came in 50ml bottles - useful if you fancy less, or in my case more - and very good accompaniment to my soutziukakia, rolled minced beef with a tomato sauce. The portions were perfect, so I had room for the fried dessert, sarikopita, a local dish of batteted mizithra cheese laced with honey. There is much that is local and traditional here.
Ouzo, raki, coffee, all good. Service very fine, not rushed, friendly and attentive. Maria & Kristina did themselves proud. Hats off too to the chef, Julia, who concocted these wonderful dishes in her tiny kitchen.
Bravo with stars. A great...
Read more"OFOU TO LO" is more than just a restaurant; it's a piece of Cretan heritage nestled by the seaside in Agios Nikolaos. The name, which I learned comes from Anogia and expresses admiration for something beautiful, perfectly captures the spirit of this place. Established in 1984, the restaurant has a rich history that you can taste in every dish. The focus on fresh, local ingredients is evident. I had the aubergine with four cheeses, and it was absolutely fantastic—a delicious and comforting blend of flavors that I highly recommend. It’s clear they take pride in serving the best quality seafood and traditional Cretan tastes. The atmosphere is welcoming and family-friendly, which is a big plus. It's great to know there's a kids' menu available, making it an excellent choice for a family meal. The staff was incredibly warm, and it's obvious that they want you to have a great time, living up to the promise in their name. This is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for an authentic and memorable dining experience in...
