I ate here twice. I came back for more. The food is top notch. The first night I had a gigantic, fresh, cucumber and tomato salad, and the pancetta. I was very satisfied. I didn't get a little dessert at the end and I was okay with that, until the table next to me got one. I always ask, before I even sit down, do you have a coffee machine? Because I love a nice double espresso and ouzo to end the evening. The coffee was not so good, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. ( The proceeding few dinners ended with absolutely fantastic espresso and...) I came back, I wanted the home made, from scratch lasagna. Dinner two, the dolmades were excellent. The Astypalean Lasagna ( more like ravioli) with local goat cheese and saffron was a delight. Now, I get the impression coffee is a big deal here in Greece. There are 9 million coffee shops. I see the locals drinking coffee 24/7. The coffee was awful. The coffee on the ferry is better. Then I see that it's some nescafe coffee maker, NOT A COFFEE MACHINE. I specifically asked. Your food is fantastic. The view is awe inspiring. Your coffee game is a zero. You need to say, sorry all we have is Greek coffee or nescafe......And no dessert again? Little things make a...
Read moreA friend of mine, who is from Astypalaia, recommended Antikastro for it's good quality and traditional Astypalaian food. I was also informed by locals that the meat and most of the products they use is from their own farms. The food was fantastic, tasty and of best quality. Don't miss trying Lambriano, local food which is usually cooked during Greek Easter and at 15th of August. You also have to taste local cheese products and Puggia (mini pies with local cheese). The guys who own and run the restaurant are very good people, uniquely kind and very helpful, speaking from their hearts. The view is also great, right next to the sea and opposite from Pera Gialos and Chora. I would definitely say that from all the restaurants in Astypalaia, Antikastro was the best in total. Don't forget to book a table when it's a busy period and also ask for Lambriano, because they don't cook...
