Small, pleasant enough place. Right next to the main road, under a veranda, passively cooled by large fans. Prices are average for the touristy area. There were a lot of flying ants and other small insects. Higher than the normal amount we had encountered so far in restaurants in the area. There were only 2 waiters working the tables, and credit to them, they were run off their feet, but trying very hard. Very friendly, like most of the places we have been to. However, because they were running around everywhere, the service suffered greatly. While the waiter was taking our order, he kept stopping to greet people and direct them to a free table. Trying to friendly, and attentive, but ignoring us in the process. First round of drinks arrived, but I had to get the attention of a waiter as my drink was not brought with the others. Starters arrived, and again mine was missed. Had to bring attention to it before it was brought out. The food quality was mediocre to good. It varied in consistency between items. We had cheese filled filo pastry rolls, but the dough was crispy on the outside, raw on the inside. Which was a shame as the filing was nice. I enjoyed the main more. I had a fresh prawn dish. The prawns were overcooked and quite tough, however the sauce and the accompanying rice dish was delicious. I would've been very happy with a bowl of the rice. Perfectly cooked, almost like a risotto. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place at night when it's busy. The atmosphere wasn't great, and the service lacked due to not enough staff and poor communication between them. I have had a much more enjoyable experience about 5 to 10 mins up the round, on the Dassia...
Read moreWe had made a reservation for 9:00 PM but arrived at 9:15, just a bit late. When we got there, we noticed there were no free tables, and it quickly became clear that ours had been given away. The staff kindly asked us to wait for five minutes while another table was being cleared and the bill was settled. In the end, it took closer to 15 additional minutes, so we were seated more than 30 minutes after our original reservation time.
That said, we honestly didn’t mind — the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and kept apologizing sincerely. They made us feel really comfortable and looked after us attentively throughout the evening.
The menu was quite varied, though I was slightly disappointed not to see red mullet on it — but to be fair, it seems hard to find in the north of Corfu in general, not just here. We started with a vegetarian-style moussaka, which was delicious. For mains, we had fresh fish and anchovies — both were absolutely amazing, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. For dessert, we shared an almond baklava. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, especially with the mango touch, but still a good baklava overall.
All in all, this was a lovely experience. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding — warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive. I would definitely come back without hesitation. A big thank you to the team for such a...
Read moreI have visited Corfu about half a dozen times, the first being in 1998, and it was in 1998 that I first visited Alexandros Taverna and since then I have endeavoured to visit this exceptional restaurant on each trip. Each visit, without fail, has been a truly wonderful experience.
The incredibly friendly staff go above and beyond when it comes to the service.
The traditional and relaxing setting is a fantastic place to spend an evening.
But it is the food that has kept me coming back again and again.
I've found that greek food is always delicious. You can find a dozen tavernas on the same street offering many of the same dishes, and you would be unlucky if you had a bad experience at any of them.
Alexandros Taverna just does it better. While I can't claim to have sampled the entire menu, when it comes to the traditional Greek and Corfu dishes, the Alexandros version is the best version I've tried. I couldn't tell you what their secret is, but the same family have run this restaurant since 1997, and it's one of the few that has stayed open without changing hands in that time.
I will be back again, I'm...
