Dinner that night was at Gevsi in Piskopiano, a tucked-away gem that doesn’t scream for attention — because it doesn’t need to. We ordered the stifado meal for two, which turned out to be a full-blown celebration of Cretan comfort food. Picture this: tender beef stifado so rich, so slow-cooked, it barely held together under the fork — like carving into warm butter. Alongside it came generous plates of large white beans swimming in a tomato sauce that tasted like someone’s yiayia had been simmering it since morning. A crisp mixed salad — tomatoes so ripe they should be illegal, crunchy cucumbers, and bitey onions — balanced things out with a cool crunch. Then there were the warm dolmades, little vine-wrapped gifts that melted in your mouth like lemony silk, a bowl of creamy tzatziki with just the right garlicky punch, and slices of garlic bread for unapologetic scooping. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a love letter from Crete, written in olive oil and served with wine.
We turned in early, hearts full, stomachs satisfied, and ants — hopefully —...
Read moreI cannot comment on the food as the twice we tried to have dinner we were rudely turned away. The first time we waited behind a young couple and when they asked were turned away as the girl was Asian. The second time the lady that works there mumbled something about she had been working since 8 am. It looks like a lovely place but the service is absolutely shocking. Apparently its a family owned restaurant but if you go you only get in if your face fits. To be honest I think it was because we are a gay couple. Regardless of that the lady who works there is extremely rude when we arrived the second time she was slouched down in a chair we waited at the entrance to be seated and she eventually huffed and got up just to say no. Would not recommend as a place like that deserves to shut and let someone take over that appreciates...
Read moreWe ate here twice during our recent trip to Piskopiano. After reading the reviews on here I made it our first meal out and it ended up being our last meal before returning home. This is a family run restaurant, I think for 3 generations and is an absolute diamond of a restaurant. The quality of the food ingredients is fabulous and I think this is because of the families pedigree ! We tried a selection of starters for our first visit which are fabulous and then the Gyros and Fish; Sea bream. The owner is closing soon at the end of the season but they will be making Olive oil and Wine for next year. This is the probably the best value restaurant in the village and the food...
