Have spent our holiday week eating and drinking mostly in this really old village. We’ve been to some lovely places here, though I only feel compelled to write a review for Latos.
It’s only been open for 22 days on the day of writing, having been developed from a mini mart to a restaurant in less than 6 months. It’s been tastefully built, not over the top, rustic and comfortable, and single handedly by the owner, Costas. Having been a professional tiler turned builder, he is also the main chef. While this might not seem totally relevant to a restaurant review, I’ve included it as I was amazed at the quality of everything he puts his hand to (he also showed me pics of his house he converted from a ruin to a lovely home).
He runs it with his wife and son, both also very welcoming and warm. After being shown to our table on the rooftop overlooking the old village of Old Hersonissos, we opted for simple, traditional dishes of Mousakka and Linguine Bolognese. I cannot emphasise enough how good this place is, firstly as a chef back home in UK I know that when food is cooked with love and it is food that the chef would eat him/herself, that's when it is good. We spoke to our waiter for the evening who was the son, his father the chef, his mother was also on the floor and he had his girlfriend in the wash up 🤣 something I have made my wife do several times for me at work 🤣🤣🤣 We have been on the island 5 nights and had some good food, but this will be the place I remember most. I may even go back again before we go. I had the ribeye, and my wife had the pork belly. We shared the meatballs as a starter, and honestly the bread!!! All were absolutely gorgeous. That bread 😍 the restaurant has not been open long and the waiter asked me if I could reccomend anything to help make them better..... they don't need to do anything other than what they are doing,...

Lato Meze and Grill is simply the best you can find here - every detail a 10/10! An absolutely family-run restaurant, and you can tell: every single member of the family is incredibly warm, always with a genuine smile - no fake friendliness, just genuine hospitality.
We've been here several times now and will definitely be back. The food? Indescribably delicious - every dish is prepared with so much love that you can taste it. The service? Perfect, attentive and simply warm. The ambience on the roof terrace? Fantastic, every detail thought through down to the smallest detail.
This family works so hard every day to offer their guests the best, and you can feel it in every second. For us, the absolute highlight here - it couldn't be better! ❤️
