My wife and read the last few reviews and decided to give 1930 a try instead of the busier tavernas a few metres away. We followed the owners recommendation and found the starters to be very tasty although the calamari was plentiful there was no refreshing lemon and garlic mayonnaise you find in other tavernas, . The stuffed vine leaves made by grandma were delicious. Unfortunately the main meals were not so good. The lamb was very overcooked and inedible, we actually gave most of it to the cats in the garden where we sat (with the owners permission), My wife did not want me to complain although of course the owner asked and i did explain it was in our opinion not good. My veal in tomato sauce was slightly better and i managed to eat most of it but still the cats had some. The fried potatoes were very nice and light. The local wine.. we each had a carafe of red and white, unfortunately the quality was not so high we could only drink half a glass each and left the rest. We were given some nice fresh melon at the end of the meal free of charge. We really enjoyed the local friendly atmosphere, but unfortunately the food for us was not of the same quality. We wish the family good luck...
Read moreLovely restaurant in Old Hersonisos, not in a crowded location but located in a side alley. Has a lovely garden for more intimate meetings. The food and wine is plentiful and tasty, the people and service are hospitable. Overcrowded with meowing stray cats, to the annoyance of the staff as well, though they kindly buggered them round the restaurant. One thing I would recommend, is changing the way in which people order, as having some sort of bingo card is a bit uncomfortable in my opinion. Still I really like how they switch the menu, depending on what ingredients they have in store. I really enjoyed the full- and freshness of the Tzatziki and the Salad 1930 (although it was a bit much, too little for a full meal salad, too much for a side dish). Great place also for reading a book, if you're not bugged by...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to this as it was highly rated but the actual experience was sadly not as enjoyable as we had hoped. The service was unreasonably slow considering that we are here outside of tourist season. We spent the night thirsty as after my first beer I could no longer get the attention of the staff to allow me to purchase more food/drinks, and once food arrived I asked for another but it never came. The food was nice but unfortunately did not make up for the lack of service or attention from the staff. Cretan service is know to be a bit more relaxed and slower which is perfectly fine, but this seemed like just poor organisation. We sat waiting for our bill for nearly 30 minutes until I was actual starting to wave my hands in the air hoping someone would look. Overall we left thirsty and...
