I recently had the pleasure of dining at Taverna Me…Raki in Hersonisos, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with the warmest Greek hospitality, making me feel like part of the family.
The ambiance is truly authentic, with decor that beautifully captures the essence of Crete. It’s a cozy and inviting space, perfect for a relaxing meal while enjoying the local culture.
As for the food—absolutely incredible! Each dish was a true representation of Greek and Cretan culinary tradition. We started with the kolokythakia (fried zucchini), which were perfectly crispy and seasoned, and the fava—a smooth and flavorful split pea puree that was simply delicious. The ntakos, a Cretan barley rusk topped with fresh tomatoes, feta, and olive oil, was a fresh and vibrant start to the meal.
For the main course, we had the lamb chops and grilled liver. The lamb chops were tender and juicy, grilled to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. The liver, a dish I don’t often order, was a delightful surprise—rich and cooked just right, with a perfect balance of flavors. The grilled chicken was also a highlight, tender and full of flavor.
To accompany these, we had horta—wild greens that were perfectly cooked and dressed with olive oil and lemon, adding a refreshing touch to the meal.
The service was top-notch, with staff who were attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their cuisine. They made excellent recommendations and were happy to share the stories behind each dish.
To wrap up the meal, we enjoyed a traditional Greek dessert. It was the perfect ending to a fantastic dining experience.
Taverna Me…Raki is a must-visit if you’re in Hersonisos. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, this is the place to go for an authentic taste of Crete. I’ll definitely be back on...
Read moreUnassuming little restaurant, out of the way, along a main road.
A restaurants reputation should always be based on food quality, and it's clear that this establishment will have a good reputation.
If you want to avoid the low quality tourist version food, or simply know how Greek food should/really tastes like, this is a place to go. When the locals with a good palate dine here regularly, you k ow it will be good.
Ordered Aubergine salad. A high quality shredded aubergine salad lighty blended to make a paste without losing the consistency. With delicious flavour. You must try it. The owner rakes great pain to make sure he only serves something worth eating at top quality.
Also the chese (can't remember what it's called, bit like halloumi but not rubbery and better flavour), bruschetta, salad and French fries.
All cooked to exquisite perfection, all flavoured perfectly. No shortcuts or half rushed attempts.
I know good quality when I have it. This is good food. and I'll make a point to say if you have a car, go there. Or get a taxi. Or walk, because if you have the experience I had, it will be worth it and not disappointed.
Would I go back- I'd make a point of doing so.

Read moreKind and welcoming service with a great explanation of the food and how to order. The mezze style of dining is one we love - you order small plates of food and it just comes out as it’s ready. You can layer each dish on the next building cumulative bites out of the growing number of items at the table. The soft goat/sheep cheese, braised greens (vitale?), local lamb chops, and halloumi with rose jam were all stellar. I loved that when we inquired about snails the owner not only informed us that he did not have them but explained why and gave us some knowledge about how to eat tn responsibly. We finished the meal with house made complimentary raki (duh, me raki) and some beautiful sour cherry yogurt and melon. Worth the trip for sure. We wished we could stay for live music but the raki had us ready for bed. Thanks to the owner for...
