Located off the main road, easy to find and nestled between olive farms, this is a place that caters to the locals which is abundantly clear with its charm and authenticity.
We were somewhat apprehensive at first but were quickly reassured after meeting the owner Zoe. She will welcome you and make you feel at home immediately.
Homemade, friendly and delicious. When you come here, it’s like going to a mom’s house for food. Never mind the menu, Ask chef/owner Zoe what she has cooked for the day because that’s what you’re going to get anyway. The meals she has prepared is for her family so, you are eating what her family is eating. Have you ever gone to you mom’s house, she has a roast chicken in the oven and you ask for a hamburger instead? You already know the answer….you’re getting the chicken!!
My wife had roast chicken and I the roast pork (baked in the wood fired oven) and a fresh Greek salad plus a fresh crusty bread made by Zoe. The food was splendid made with love and perfect for us. For dessert, we were given fresh fruit that was harvested from their farm and offered some Raki as a digestif…..wow!
Zoe sat with us for hours and chatted about her family and we shared about ours. It was a magical evening. It’s was the ultimate Greek moment, connecting with a fabulous soul and lovely woman like Zoe. We met her son and husband and honestly, we could have stayed all night. What a force to be reckoned with and Zoe loves to talk and meet you.
CASH ONLY !!
The food bill was not expensive, I won’t mention pricing because I would have easily paid double for what we got. We left her with a generous tip. But, I will say that the bill was a fraction of what we paid the night before for mediocre food at a seaside touristy restaurant.
If you are seeking the real deal, want to eat fresh, organic-authentic food and want to connect to the local community I...
Read moreThis tavern is exactly why I love to come to Crete. It's a traditional family tavern with nice food and good quality owned by Zoe and Niko. Mostly locals around, not many tourists.
Not everything on the menu is available everyday, as Zoe is cooking 3-4 dishes fresh each day. I read in the comments about her amazing Moussaka but on the day we were there, it was not in the menu. My boyfriend was also interested to try the goat. So we asked her, when she will make these 2 dishes, so we can come back and try it. Her answer was "When do you want it? I will make it then." So we agreed to come back the next day. 😊When we arrived, she welcomed us friendly and said, "The food is ready when you are." We were blown away by that service. Niko also invited me to have a look into the open kitchen. That's where I made the picture of the Moussaka. What can I say? It was the best Moussaka I have ever tried. Also, we had a nice chat with Zoe and Niko. They are lovely, fun people. We are coming back on Sunday for the BBQ and we are looking forward to it. 😀

Read moreWe had a great time at the Taverna Trapieris! It’s a typically traditional Greek Taverna, which is something we greatly appreciate. We really wanted to try the Moussaka as we read it is absolutely delicious. This is why we talked to the hostess and decided that we would come back another day when she had prepared Moussaka. And it really was amazing! Moreover, we had a nice starter. It was a combination of spinach, zucchini and potatoes with olive oil and lemon - just delicious! The food was fresh and the price was more than fair. We will definitely come...
