Aaaah 😍 Maaad Iriiiiieeee 😍 The reviews and funky decor drew us here... then we ate the food, then we came back for more food and music 🎶 then we made friends with the owner... Cue special memories and a connection to this place forever in our hearts.
We ate both nights of our all too brief time in Matala and can't rate the food high enough. Hand on my heart, the BEST homemade vegan burger of my life caught me off guard, the huge salad bowl was out of this world, the two kinds of pasta were simple and scrumptious, and what magic was in that secret recipe soup?
Both nights had really great live music too; the Tues being a highly entertaining Greek pair, and the Wed being a phenomenal Spanish band playing their own blend of rousing revolutionary sounds, including songs from Santana and Manu Chao (who's biography I just so happened to bring on holiday with me?!!)
Both nights saw the narrow street full of people dancing, clapping and singing along with joy and laughter. We made friends with lovely folk from round the world, and are already looking forward to saving up and going back for longer next year.
As the owner said to us, do what makes you happy, don't worry about business that isn't yours, and be unapologetically yourself; life is short...
We miss you already, Michelle and the Mad Irie crew ❤️💚💛🖤 see you next September xxxx
Ps: beware of drinking their very strong spiced raki before catching public transport the next day!!!
Note, the price we spent per person takes into account our...

We have had only the BURGER here, written with capitals because it is huge!
The burger is really plant-plantbased, it is made of wholefood plant ingredients, so not a surrogate burger vegans and vegetarians get at some places but a homemade burger.
And let me tell you that it tastes soooo delicious, we would say in Holland; ‘like an Angel pies over your tongue’.
The ‘burger’ is decorated with a lot other ingredients, and the bread is white with a great crunch. I had ginger tea with it and my husband beer.
Afterwards we got fresh fruit with an extra taste swing in it. We sat outside in the sun with very good Jamaican music.
If you are nearby swing by because you have to try their kitchen.
Thank you both for this...
Read moreCame across this place one afternoon and talked to the ladies behind the counter. They were very welcoming and told us that they serve vegetarian/vegan food and sometimes there is music too. We checked the reviews and were surprised and suspicious about the 5 star rating… when we returned that night, the place was full of life and music. Ordered lasagna and a selection platter for one. Literally everything was served was unbelievably delicious. It is now obvious why everyone gives 5 star. It is well deserved. Amazing food, great vibe, friendly people and music… what else do you need? Ob yeah, on Sunday afternoons they do buffet style self service all-you-can-eat for 10 euros. A no brainer. We will return every time we...
