Ampavris Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Kos

We arrived here attracted by the good reviews, but the reality, at least for us, was different. My boyfriend and I ordered a Greek salad, a portion of french fries and a soulvaki chichen, the service was very slow, the Greek salad arrives after half an hour, I ask the waiter for oil and vinegar, he only brings me the 'oil, then I ask for the vinegar, he forgets about it and doesn't bring it to me again. The chips arrive after 45 minutes of waiting, I ask him for mayonnaise and ketchup he only brings me mayonnaise and he forgets the ketchup. After 1 hour of waiting the chichen soulvaki still hadn't arrived and we try to call the waiter who doesn't even look at us. The second time we call him, without answer, we decide to leave. At this point we notify the waiter, who tells us that "it's coming" and apologises. We were really disappointed after 1 hour of waiting, for a chicken souvlaki, with my partner not having dinner, while I had finished half an hour ago. We go to pay for what arrived at the checkout, disappointed, they don't even apologize for the waiting time. Tourists are not treated like that. Not...

I know the owner since the taverna was in the previous location, unfortunately it has been damaged in the last earthquake.

Even if it is not in the center of Kos town, it's at walking distance from the Marina, and I often see here dining guests and crews from yachts.

The place is basically a grill, meaning their main courses are grilled meat. However, they also have - according to season - vegetables and typical main courses and appetizers of the Greek tradition. Always ask Mr Manolis for the plate of the day!

Also important are the prices, value for money. You will enjoy it as do many locals that eat here and order...

Under new management and definitely improved a lot in the last years. I wish its bad reputation from the past leaves it and people start seeing it with a new eye. I am a definite regular and their quality of meat is excellent. It's usually open late hours so if you are finishing a late shift it's great for a quick diner. Prices are standard on the cheap end.
