Hirodion Taverna — Restaurant in Municipality of Kos

Hirodion is a lovely traditional taverna located just a short walk outside the Kos city center. When we arrived, we were a bit surprised to see that the place was almost empty — which made us hesitate at first. But we decided to give it a try anyway, especially since it had many positive reviews online. And we’re glad we did! Maybe on evenings it is more lively :)

The menu felt a little outdated in design, but it had photos of the dishes, which actually helped us know exactly what to expect. Prices were reasonable — pretty average for the area.

The woman who served us was absolutely wonderful: kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Her hospitality made the whole experience even better.

The food was excellent — everything we ordered was delicious and well-prepared. Also, the portions were huge! The wine was great too!

The setting is pleasant, but there’s room for improvement when it comes to furniture and table decor. A small investment in ambiance could make a big difference. And playing some Greek music would be a nice background too :)

We’d give it a solid 4.8 out of 5. The service and food were outstanding, and even though the place could use a little refresh, we would definitely recommend it for a relaxed, tasty meal in a traditional...

On my visit to Kos, I decided to travel into Kos Town to see the sights. I decided to come to this restaurant with my family due to the ratings and the food looked marvellous. I did not book before hand so there was no reservation made but when we got to the restaurant for lunch, there were various foods ordered, but as we got there, the gentleman (possibly the owner) sat us under the Fan. One ⭐️ for being thoughtful. He took our order, was patient with all 7 of us and when the food came out, and we did not need to wait long, it was delicious. Swordfish, Sardines, Calamari, Tomato Soup, Pizza and Wings, it was all lovely a delicious. The chips eere nice and the salad, that came with each dish, amazing. When we were settling up, we paid via cash and card and we even got free bottles of water ("because its hot outside", he said), another ⭐️....

This place is something else. I have been told over the years that the Greek Hospitality is something else & they treat you like long lost family. I have visited many restaurants in Kos but no where makes you feel more like coming home to family than this place. I visited this restaurant in August with my family & then returned 9 weeks later with a friend. When I walked through the door the owner & staff remembered me straight away. They were asking after my wife & son, it was like meeting family. They also serve the best lamb Kleftico in Kos if not Greece! The food is absolutely top quality, the prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is relaxing & the staff / owner are out of this world. If you visit once you will be hooked for life. You will arrive as customer & leave as family. Thank you & see you...
