AVOID THIS PLACE – RACIST, HOSTILE, AND A TOTAL TOURIST TRAP
We had an absolutely appalling experience at Bouyata Open Kitchen in Arillas, Corfu. We went there for a dinner after reading some positive reviews about their risotto on google, but what started as a quiet dinner turned into one of the most disturbing and humiliating encounters I’ve ever had — marked by racism, verbal abuse, and aggressive behavior from the staff and manager.
We ordered a vegetarian risotto (€15) and asked to substitute spinach with mushrooms/broccoli. The waitress agreed but didn’t mention any extra charge. When the bill arrived, it was €22. I politely asked why, and the manager snapped, “We gave you extra vegetables — we can charge whatever we want.”
They also charged us for a bottle of water we never asked for or touched. When I questioned it, the manager shouted, “Do you not understand English? This isn’t a supermarket!”, and insisted that anything placed on the table must be paid for — even though there was no mention of this on the menu.
When he learned we were Indian, he made a disgustingly racist remark: “Show me one place in India where you get clean water, and I’ll give you this bottle for free.”
The situation escalated rapidly. Both the manager and the owner became physically aggressive — I was pushed, and my 60-year-old father was verbally abused while trying to defuse the situation. They even threatened to call the police and called me “sick and cheap” for questioning a few euros. For us it was never about the money — it was about basic dignity.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t capture any of this on video as we were too stunned and fearful in the moment. The restaurant was completely empty, and we felt isolated and unsafe, so we paid and left immediately.
This place is a disgrace. Do not support it. Corfu is beautiful and welcoming and there are plenty other restaurants that were amazing, however this restaurant is the exact opposite. Tourists...

My husband and I visited Bouyata Open Kitchen in Arillas, Corfu with our family and were met with unbelievable hostility and racism from the manager and staff. What was supposed to be a nice dinner turned into a nightmare.
We were overcharged for basic food without any prior mention and were yelled at when we asked for clarification. The manager literally shouted, “Do you not understand English?” and insulted our nationality, saying things like, “Show me one place in India where you get clean water.”
It was dehumanizing, and I’ve never felt so unsafe in a restaurant. They also physically pushed my partner and verbally abused my uncle. We were the only ones there and too shaken to record what happened.
This is not just bad service — it’s a place run by aggressive, racist people. Please avoid...
Read moreOutstanding service by Ioanna and Panos. The nicest service that we've had on our entire trip to Corfu. The food presentation was amazing for the price. We had the day's special prawn spaghetti with basilic pesto, a classic burger and lamb chops with baby potatoes. All was delicious. Additionally, we had a cocktail and a juice mix, both looked and tasted so good! Sad we had no phones to take a picture. We loved the place decor, too: swing chairs, being surrounded by plants (which they use to cook their dishes: cherry tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, lemons..). The other day they had some combo meals at some very attractive prices. Will definitely come back for...
