Gratsela — Restaurant in Municipality of Northern Corfu

Appallingly bad mannered waiter/owner. We wanted to have a special meal here as it has a beautiful location and we were quite happy to spend a bit of money in doing so. We ordered a fresh whole lobster which, when it came, was missing the claws and the meat was so tough it was like eating rubber. We complained (politely and constructively) and the waiter was quite objectionable and ranted at us, telling us that his brother had caught the lobster freshly that morning and his mother and father were in the kitchen and had been cooking lobster for 40 years and told us that we didn’t know what we were talking about. He took everything very personally and, even when I suggested that perhaps it had just been left on the grill for a little too long, he just told me, “it is Greek lobster, it is fresh, nobody has ever complained about this before”. He was rude, abrupt, and had no capacity to accept that he, his restaurant or his staff had done anything wrong. There was no attempt whatsoever to make things right or to offer us any sort of alternative, so we went home having not eaten. My wife and I were calm and polite throughout the entire exchange but this man was a very unpleasant individual who ruined what was an otherwise very pleasant evening. If I could give zero stars, I would. Don’t go here. There are some lovely restaurants with very good food and very good service within a very short distance...

Since I was alone and he had changed his mind and did not want me as a customer anymore after few minutes, he took my order from the street, 10 meters away, screaming and not coming at the table. Then he said there was only half a liter of wine, giving not me the time to read the menu. After exactly one minute I saw two glasses of wine pass in front of me at two different tables. I tried to call to change the order and not drink too much. I would also have added water and an appetizer. He gestures to me for silence with his finger and stared 10 meters far from me. Then a young boy come to bring the wine. I asked kindly and smiling for the change and he said in Italian "finished, goodbye here the waiter comes only once". We had spoken in English before. He kicked me out, in a bad way with a "casus belli", to fill the table with 2 people. I COULD NOT BELEIVE IT ! Never happened in my life to be kicked off from a restaurant cause I asked for a change of drink after 2 minutes and I have been traveling all life all around the world. Cheating on wine (only half a liter while plenty of just 1 glass in front of me ) and kicked me off for a request to change (wine in a carafe and not food) after 2 minutes. Classic tourist restaurant fast food mode, that serves in robot / assembly line way because they want you to eat fast and recycle the table. If you are alone and people come, they throw you out! In addition, he starts to speak in Italian when he wants to argue in a tone that turns out to be of obvious dislike, to put it mildly, towards Italians. Siccome ero solo e aveva cambiato idea e non mi voleva come cliente, mi ha preso l’ordine dalla strada urlando. Poi ha detto che c’era solo mezzo litro di vino. Dopo un minuto esatto vedo passare davanti a me due calici di vino in due tavoli diversi. Provo a chiamare per cambiare l’ordine e non bere troppo, avrei aggiunto anche l’acqua e un antipasto. Lui mi fa il cenno di silenzio con il dito e resta a 10 metri. Poi arriva il ragazzo a portare il vino. Chiedo il cambio e lui dice in Italiano “finito, arrivederci qui il cameriere viene solo una volta”. Prima avevamo parlato in inglese. Mi ha cacciato via, in malo modo con un “casus belli”, per riempire il tavolo con 2 persone. INAUDITO E INCREDIBILE. Cacciato da un ristorante perché chiedo un cambio di ordine. Mai successo in vita mia e ho viaggiato in mezzo mondo. . Truffaldino sul vino ( solo mezzo litro ) e cacciato per una richiesta di cambio ( del vino in caraffa e non cibo ) dopo 2 minuti. Classico ristorante turistico in stile fast food che serve in modalità robot/catena di montaggio perché vuole che mangi in fretta e riciclare il tavolo. Se sei solo e arriva gente, ti cacciano ! Inoltre si mette a parlare in Italiano quando vuole litigare con un tono che risulta essere di evidente antipatia, per usare un eufemismo, verso gli italiani. Came here because read good reviews (although some bad about staff) and decided to give it a try for the view mainly and my need for mussels. Firstly denied seating on the shore and only availability in the restaurant when there were tables available (yes they set out to be large seating for 12 people but they split them and saw two couples as we left, so surely weren't reserved). The mussels looked good but had the tiniest animals inside compared to the size of the Shells which was extremely disappointing and the sauce was plain garlic butter with intense amount of salt, not inventive at all, the kalamari was tough compared to Horizon down the beach which is great every time, the sardines were fine but I'd actually asked for the smaller white bait. So all in all not a great experience and overated, probably lacking in effort because they know the stream of customers due to the sunset view (which raises it to 2 stars) That was my experience, staff were friendly enough, chefs...
