May 2021 review: This is easily one of the best seafood restaurants in the area, if not the entire city. located off the beaten track, it is a stand-alone and very much stand-out food spot which under-promises and certainly over-delivers. The food is nothing short of excellent, prepared, presented, and served with care. Reading the menu might make you think that this is just another bog-standard seafood taverna with a slightly nicer decor. Alas, once the dishes start coming, expect to be surprised. The tastes are authentically Greek, and the ingredients very well matched and refined. We ordered 5 dishes (which, for two people, were more than enough - 4 dishes are better balanced, if you want to leave space for desert) and they started coming at short succession from each other. This means we could enjoy nibbling from all at the same time; also indicates an excellently run kitchen. Noting that we visited on a random Tuesday evening, so I’d like to check this place out on a much busier day/time. Prices might seem higher than the average seafood taverna but the food truly is worth every cent. Every bite was a party in our mouth. We were first served with cream cheese, olive oil in aged vinegar, and rye bread for starters. We ordered the smoked fish roe with caviar, crumbles, and sea fennel, the sea bream ceviche, purple amaranth and lemon cheese salad, octapus stew in trufle-infused fava bean cream and fried onion sprinkles, and cheese of Naxos rolls in tomato jam. Complementary desert consisted of a lemon cream with masticha foam, sour cherry preserve and crumbles and a shot of masticha liqueur. And it was all to die for. October 2021 review: We had the pleasure to grab lunch at this restaurant during a quiet week day and the experience was more or less as great at it was earlier in the year. Other than the sea bream ceviche we opted to order different dishes in order to sample some variety. Once again Psarades did not disappoint. The bread starter this time round was accompanied by a spicy cheese spread with nigella seeds (?), chives and crumbs which was delicious. The seabass tartare was out of this world, sitting on a chunky avocado base and topped with black sesame seeds. The shrimp and cheese saganaki in tomato bisque was very tasty as well. The monkfish main dish on the menu was replaced by salmon and was equally mouthwatering in sweet desert wine (μαυροδάφνη) and beef jus. The grilled sardines beautifully complemented by the finocchio spread and brine chalots. My only tiny disappointment was that the sea bream ceviche (which we were blown away by, first time round) was… less (seemed like less quantity on the plate and I think some of the ingredients were not there). Regardless, the food here IS amazing, and I will certainly come again for more. Highly highly...
Read moreMy wife and I have been in Athens for 12 days and as avid "foodies" have sampled many delights from the greek cuisine, some good some bad but our biggest regret was not finding this excellent restaurant sooner what an absolute must visit place for seafood,I cannot recommend or praise this place enough ! There are not enough adjectives in the english language to describe the amazing food that is served here, such well presented and perfectly cooked food full of flavour and taste,my wife an I ordered 2 "starters" and 2main course,(see pics) as we were both famished and as you can see from the portion size in the picture also it turns out ambitious. after being seated, our waiter who spoke very good english thankfully, brought a lovely beetroot puree with two crisp "sails" the beetroot stiff not watery and very earthy on the pallet, next to arrive was my wife's choice, the clams with monkfish presented in a succulent sauce, the fish still slightly opaque the clams melted in our mouth,my starter was scallops, again presented with a beautiful sauce thankfully we had 3different types of bread to soak both sauces up,on our waiter Alexander's recommendation we had a bottle of house white, crisp cold and just dry enough to compliment all our dishes, our main courses arrived, again in style,my wife's a very excellent tomato, prawn and truffle risotto, the rice still stiff the prawns fat and juicy and just enough truffle so as not to overpower the flavour,my choice was the swordfish with potatoes and carrots and some sweet cherry tomatoes with a sprinkling of spring onion again the fish cooked to perfection very meaty and juicy cooked on a skewer with white onion and red an green pepper, the potatoes smashed with the carrots. Although all of our dishes had there own distinct taste they and the wine complimented each other perfectly we spent a very happy couple of hours here without feeling rushed or harried as is sometimes the case elsewhere, after ploughing our way through a plethora of taste, alexander brought us a surprise ending to our evening of a complimentary dessert of vanilla custard with a hint I think of lemoncella and a sharp not too sweet fruit coulis with burnished cream wow, thank you to all the staff and chef's for making our last evening and meal in Athens so enjoyable and a special thank you to Alexander for being so courteous and friendly towards us sorry we couldn't finish our dessert though we did try hard to. This place is only a short walk from the cultural center and I advise all the tourists that visit there to make the effort and come here im sure the staff and Alexander will make you feel as welcome as we were, and the food is as good if not better than that welcome. ...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to rate my experience with a 3. I say unfortunately, because the food was excellent, but for one dish. The octopus was NOT edible. And the worst part was that they knew it. Mind you that at no instance did anybody ask us how our food was, or come by our table. Also, when we were first ordering we asked if the food was too much and the waiter said no you're good, but we weren't! The food was too much, all they wanted was for us to order more food. Only when we finally asked for the check did the waiter come over and say in almost a whisper, how was everything, and when we told him everything was good but for the octopus (we only had 2 pieces to try it) the waiter in an even lower voice, said and u waited till you're about to pay to say it? The service was bad and they didn't even write it off the check or atleast charge less for it. Overall the place was mediocre at best. Customers are usually right. Thinking about it a 3 is too high. But I'm...
