Taverna Nionios — Restaurant in Municipality of Paxos

Very bad experience in this restaurant. We chose this restaurant based on Google reviews that were globally very good. We arrived and found our table ready but tiny for seven, with cheap paper protections on the table. A waiter gave us the menu, took our order for drinks but said "i cannot take orders for food, you have to wait". We had made our choice 10 minutes after our arrival but nobody came to write it. 45 minutes after our arrival, I decided to go and see the waiter again, he said he will ask his colleague to come. Finally, an hour after our arrival, i came into the restaurant to meet the boss who explained me that none of the meals on the menu was available and presented me uncooked meals behind a window and cooked meals in cooking pots, not very appetizing and that doesn't look very fresh. We made our choice to avoid moving to another restaurant. Everything was served at 9.30pm (we arrived at 8pm). My meal was ok but my son got slim lamb chops with very few meat on the bone, my stepmother got untasty and plastic like "grilled" squid, my daughter was very disappointed not to get what she has chosen an hour ago. The wine was decent but finished before the meals arrived. All the family was greatly deceived by these 2 hours lost in this "restaurant". We finally paid the bill minus the squid. You should give a try to "Rosa di Paxos" or "Paximadi" but definitely not to...

So, lets make this as short as possible. Great service, average food, bad house wine and finally cheated by the bill. The food was OK compared to the local food you would find elsewhere in the island. The service and food explanation we felt was a bit of a show off because at the end for all of this we paid 65€ for Greek salad, olives, house white (1/2 ltr) baked mussels, fish dish and baklava. We asked for the bill, and only got a paper with the amount, it was NOT a genuine bill with the items printed. A bit shocked but didn't want to make a fuss. We called a couple of our Greek friends and they too claimed it was outrageous and should call the police which we thought was a bit of a scene. TOP TIP: eat there but don't order the house white(tastes like beer without gas) and ALWAYS ASK FOR THE BILL WHERE YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH...

The food was average (the worst we had during our stay), the service... definitely understaffed, the poor waiter was running like crazy to take all the orders, doing his best, and thank you to him as he was very nice and friendly. Nevertheless, i cannot give more than 3/5 for the service because the hurry, stress, and absence of the staff due to the excess of work is reflected on the dining experience. Atmosphere, my 4 pers. family was stuck on a small table (imho for 2 pers.), definitely not enough space to comfortably eat. We have ordered spagetti to share between two of our kids, the waiter proposed to us to serve the portion split into 2 plates, so kind from him we thought, it cost us 2 eur at the end 🤣 All in all, we didn't enjoy that diner.
