If you happen to visit Lakka while you are in Paxos, be absolutely sure to eat here!
I've travelled around in Greece quite a lot (I've lived here around 9 years now), and one of the things that can be quite hit and miss is traditional cooked food like Moussaka. Well...I can honestly say that Taverna Pounentes makes the best Moussaka I have ever eaten (see photo). I'm not sure whether it is the wood fired oven they use, or something else, but it is to die for.
As I was staying in Lakka, I ended up coming back to the restaurant a few times, and I never had a bad dish, which is impressive! Another standout dish for me was the pork and mushrooms. The pork melts in your mouth, and the sauce to go with it was incredible.
Moving on from the food...the restaurant itself is centrally located in Lakka and has a really pleasant outside area to sit and eat. The atmosphere is very relaxing, and your host George is the kindest and most genuine person you will likely meet. In fact, all the staff I met were amazing. Family run places like this are really something else when they are run the way Taverna Pounentes is.
In summary, if you just want to sit, relax, and eat exceptional food, in good company, then this...
Read moreThe worst food that I have eaten during my holidays in Greece. Below you have an example of unfriendly behaviour that takes place in this restaurant. Chicken was just ok, tasted as if I did it at home, so I wouldn’t say that should be served in restaurant for that price looking at the fact that I am not the best cooker. Artichokes alla polita was uneatable. That was the first time my girlfriend and I left anything on the plate. The „lemonade” is Fanta, so don’t be fooled if you want to drink something refreshing. The waiter is very loud, you can hear him on the other side of the restaurant. The waitress seems like she doesn’t know what’s going on around her, but maybe these are her first days in the work so I wouldn’t blame her. To sum up, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. You’d better spend more money somewhere else, just to get a tasty dinner.
And btw. I don’t need to give my personal information in the Internet to...
Read moreI'm from Greece, and i have to say a few things. The service here was HORRIBLE! They only cared about foreign people, and completely ignored us. The atmosphere was also terrible, with broken lights and rusted fences. When i asked them for napkins, they ignored me TWICE. The pizza i ordered was really expensive, and way too sweet while they didn't even bring me water, but for foreign people they brought them extra things to grab more money from them, but also the menu was only in English and Italian, which means that if you don't know English, you can't order. Also, when i opened my napkin which had my fork and spoon, there was a black thing inside which was oily, and instead of bringing me a new napkin and utensils, they tried to convince me it was from the pizza, despite the pizza arriving at the table half an hour later. To conclude, this place is the worst restaurant i have ever been in, and i will never...
