Tsikoudia - Cretan Meze Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Piraeus

We sat outside and had the BEST meal. We ordered the beef knuckle and split it. We had zucchini balls ... A favorite of ours.... All of the food was fantastic. When we were seated we were brought a small bottle of raki.. .and it just got better with the bread then the meal. We got a Cretan salad... So interesting with the brown rusk bread that crunched when we ate it. A nice lady came out and stood nearby.... I offered her a seat at our table as I thought she was waiting for someone.... It came out she just came out to smoke. We laughed about how astonished her husband would be if he came out and she was sitting there with us. We talked about where we live and she said she was from piraeus.... Later her husband sent us a carafe of red wine. When he came out he was delightful. Greeks are so friendly.... These wonderful encounters happen often to us. Sooooo.... Back to the restaurant:. Good service, excellent food and good atmosphere... If...

Greek here. The food we had was quite awful. The mashed potatoes with the kotsi had coagulated (did they beat them with a mixer?) and the quantity of truffle oil in them was intolerable. The sweetness of the petimezi sauce was repugnant. The tsigariasto lamb was dry and had no sauce on the plate whatsoever. The pitakia had a doughy feeling in the mouth. To top it off, the service was sub-standard -- with only a couple of tables, you'd expect the server to notice when we run out of water. We left without order dessert or accepting the watermelon. After explaining that we were disappointed with the food, the staff didn't make an effort to discount the bill, apologize or at least learn more about what was so wrong....

It would have been 4 stars if it weren't for the extremely salted escargot. The dish was inedible and left untouched. The waiters never bothered asking if something was wrong, so I let them know after paying the bill. The answer was, "This is how the dish is cooked." Even if this was true (which is not, I can surely know, having tried this in various Cretan cuisine restaurants and home made by friends on the island), the lack of interest to the customer's comment and arrogance, played a major part to my final rating of the restaurant.
