Hams & Clams — Restaurant in Municipality of Piraeus

I visited the restaurant on July 1st 2021, a party of 2 people. Luckily I had already made a reservation from the night before as the place soon became packed. Our waiter was very attentive and informed us on the days specials. We got:

1. Salmon tartare with truffle oil served on bread: One of the day's specials, the taste was very nice although I think I would prefer it with tuna. I was not a big fun of the bread. To me it had to reason to exist on the plate and it could be crispier
2. Oysters rockefeller: I have never tried this before so I cannot really comment on that, but what I enjoyed it very much
3. Risotto with wheat, cuttlefish ink, shrimps and calamari: This was my friend's choice. I tried a little bit. It was tasty but I felt the rice was underdone. However, she, being half- Italian liked it very much. I also object to the calamari and shrimp as them being frozen (indicated on the menu) resulted on a chewy texture
4. Grouper fillet with parsnip sauce and pickled red cabbage: This was my choice and I really enjoyed it. Very tasty but the grouper could be juicier
5. Banoffee: The dessert was on the house. This happened because the waiter omitted to process our order to the kitchen. I am usually very strict on errors like that, but that fact that he owned up to it and offered dessert shows professionalism

Ah, Hams & Clams — for those who enjoy paying fine dining prices while sitting on chairs that could double as garden furniture. Truly a masterclass in style over substance. Where else can you experience a pasta dish for 28€ that includes the thrilling surprise of three bite-sized pieces of grouper and a sauce so watery, it could’ve been ladled straight from the Adriatic?

The ambiance? Think minimalist—but not in the chic, architectural sense. More like “we blew the budget on the menu fonts.” And let’s not forget the 3.5€ bottle of water, which surely must have been imported from a glacier… in someone’s imagination.

And the pièce de résistance? An 80€ sole fish that teaches you the real meaning of “daylight robbery” — though calling it a “heist” might be unfair to actual criminals who put in more effort.
