My wife and I visited this taverna on the sea front in Maleme during our week long stay on the beautiful island of Crete, having eaten at many different places during our stay we picked mythos as our next destination. Seated right on the sea front around 8:45pm our waitress seated us and we looked through the menu, 45 minuets later our order had still not been taken, out waitress had served several other tables which had turned up after we had arrived and even though kept making eye contact with us kept avoiding our table. The other waitress, a blonde woman, who took the drinks order was excellent, friendly and polite and almost turned this poor experience around. We finally managed to order our food around 9:30, around 9:50 our sons food arrived as a starter whilst we sat waiting. 10:15 and my wife’s main arrived, I was told my food would be just a couple more minuets... 10:30 my food arrives and by this point I am no longer interested in eating, our three year old son was falling asleep at the table and our blonde waitress had still not returned to check in on us or made any effort what so ever. The lady taking the drinks orders actually had to fetch our bill and apologised for our wait, several other tables with couples and families seemed to be having the same awful experience. I don’t like leaving negative reviews as I know how this can effect a persons business however on this occasion our evening was ruined and I want to save anyone...
Read moreDuring every trip, my family and I make it a tradition to visit a restaurant that serves local cuisine — and this time was no exception. We decided to explore traditional Greek flavors, and choosing this particular restaurant turned out to be one of our best decisions.
We primarily ordered seafood, including:
A mixed seafood platter featuring swordfish, sea bass, sardines, mussels, shrimp, octopus, and battered squid
Fried smelt
A classic Greek salad
Grilled vegetables
Tzatziki
Among all the dishes, several stood out:
The octopus was cooked to perfection. It had an incredibly tender texture while maintaining its shape. The flavor wasn’t overwhelmed by spices — the seasoning was subtle and perfectly salted.
The grilled sea bass exceeded all our expectations. It was the juiciest fish I’ve ever tasted, clearly prepared by someone who knows their craft.
The smelt and sardines were also excellent — fried with minimal batter and no overpowering spices, allowing the natural taste of the fish to shine through.
The remaining dishes were also delicious, but these particular items left the strongest impression.
To top it off, the restaurant treated us to a complimentary dessert: a delightful watermelon and liqueur and a biscuit soaked in honey or syrup — a sweet and thoughtful ending to a great meal.
I’ll definitely be returning — next time to try their...
Read moreWorst meal of the whole holiday. We sat down and waited 20 minutes until somebody came over to prepare the table and bring the menus. 10 minutes later the drinks where brought. We then waited 45 minutes until a different waitress came up and asked if we had our mains, to which we replied "We haven't even had our starters yet". Within 1 minute came the starters and straight after that the mains. My girlfriend has chicken fillet and it wasn't cooked in the middle. Clearly they had forgot our order and rushed it through. The waitress came over and asked if everything was okay and told her no and showed her the uncooked chicken to which we received a reply of "I can get the chef to cook it some more for you".......No thanks! We finished the mains and waiting another 30 minutes and nobody had come over so we decided to get up and go and pay at the bar ourselves even though the waitresses kept looking over but didn't want to come across. We paid for the meal and one of the waitresses shouted us back to say we got our drinks free because they where sorry and really busy (only 60% of the tables where taken). Ironically in this time we only had one drinks each because of how bad the service was. If you want a superb restaurant with fantastic staff and food then go visit "Astrea" in Platanias. Avoid this who just want your money and...
