UPDATE: Response to the restaurant's reply
Very unprofessional to "politely" insult me by assuming I don't know what quality Greek food is and affirming I'm used to touristic and pre-made meals. I only ate in the best local restaurants, avoiding any touristic places. They should just accept the criticism, but their pride let them defy a client just because they have 4,8 on google maps, so they can't make mistakes. I do not doubt they have a great restaurant, but that night was not great for us. Still I would recommend to try it for everyone who did not eat there yet, maybe we had bad luck. Dear restaurant, when I say that your "homemade" tzatziki tasted just like yogurt with no other flavors at all, it is the truth and you know better than me that tzatziki should not just taste like yogurt. When I say the salad is too cold, it is too cold, and I ate a lot of "cold" greek salads as they say to me. When I say I struggled to finish the feta, I say it keeping in mind the other local fetas I ate all around Rhodes. For this kind of behaviour, the rating is now 2 stars instead of 3. I'll say no more. END OF UPDATE
Having done my research to find good restaurants, this one should have been one of them, in theory. That's because we wanted to eat here one night but it was fully booked (good sign in general), and the next evening some locals were eating in the restaurant (even better sign).
I ordered a greek salad, some dolmades, traditional rhodian pita bread with some tzatziki and pastourmadopitakia. My girlfriend had an eggplant salad and pork fillet with an orange sauce and potatoes.
The experience was underwhelming, dare I say disappointing in some ways. My greek salad was not great: the tomatoes had no taste (usually that's not the case), cucumber and pepperoni were too cold to be enjoyed, they put not enough onions and gave only 4 little olives (I counted them), only 4! Also the feta cheese on top was not really good, I struggled to finish it... I don't want to say that the feta cheese was bought from a random market, but I'm certain I've eaten much more better feta during my stay in Rhodes.
The dolmades were ok, good enough, but nothing special. Rhodian pita was also underwhelming, but it was ok. The tzatziki... it was just yogurt, for what it tasted, that's it. No flavors from the cucumber, no sign of garlic, nothing.. there's so much better in town and on the rest of the island, I'm sorry to say it.
The only great thing was the pastourmadopitakia with its tomato marmellade, which was really good and an original dish from the restaurant (never seen it in other places), but who knows, I have no comparisons. Also the pork fillet of my girlfriend was amazing, tasty and juicy. It was abundant in meat and original in the orange sauce. However, the potatoes coming with the plate had not much flavor and my girlfriend didn't finish them, just like her eggplant salad (but for this last one I think she was full).
Service was kind and the food came fast, really fast, like in 10 minutes maximum. I don't know if it was this haste to affect the quality of the food.
Appreciated the gesture of giving a free little sweet with some liquor. Liquor was fantastic, however I didn't like so much the little sweet, but I think it's just me and what I prefer. Thank you anyway!
For what I expected, and judging from what I ate and comparing it to what I already tasted elsewhere, it's 3 stars here on google. 3,5 in reality, but it's impossible to give that number here and 4...
Read moreSo good! This place is filled with passion, love and pride. A little outside of the main attraction, in a residential area, in an adorable multi-story house, filled with character. The inside is decorated with such elegance and love. We ate among the nesake, " 4 Rosie's" or 4 pomegranate trees in the "back yard", which was less formal, but also decorated, with attention paid to every detail. it was so clean, even though not was out side. I was wearing a brand new stark white linen outfit, and this outside patio could probably pass a white glove test! There were chicken nuggets, fries for kids to eat, and sweet, friendly kitties ("Charlie" the cat, a fluffy black and white, and his mom a gray and white - they did not beg or intrude, but charlie did come when called, and stayed nearby) for the kids,.and lots of unbelievably yummy authentic, Greek dishes, made by the matriarch of the family and her son, and served by other lovely progeny. They serve a terracotta "pot" of a baked noodle dish that consists of eggplant, red sauce with meat and bechamel that was divine! There is a salad with prosciutto (cooked to a delicate, delicious crisp) that is incredible. We had something like a meatball in a sauce that was delectable. There is a plate of fried veggie patties that are incredible - also Tates great topped with an order of tzatziki. There is a plate of something that LOOKS like mini tamales that is note worthy. The grilled bread basket, comes with a fuschia garlic spread that is so tasty. The actual garlic rolls are incredible. Then, to top it all off, they serve an unbelievably delicious square of homemade marble-frosted cake, with a tiny cordial glass of a homemade rich, deep red, sweet drink made by the matriarch of the family from a variety of geranium. I think the drink was alcoholic because they did not serve it to the teenagers or youngsters in our family. The daughter brought us a leaf of the plant - the leaf smelled so lovely. ...
Read moreWe ate here several times during our stays in Rhodes at the start and end of our island hopping month. On all occasions we ate inside, spaciously arranged in small areas. There is also a wrap around balcony and courtyard. The man who takes the orders is knowledgeable about the menu but tries to get you to order all together As a couple we prefer a more relaxed starter then a second course after a gap so we ordered one course then a second. However this did not prevent a dish of chips arriving well before the lamb on one occasion. The house wine is lovely. Pitta came with a different dip each time. The food was always very good and a bit different from the usual tourist fare. Highlights from our visits include: chicken livers, a sausage egg and tomato dish, pear, prosciutto and pine nut salad. On each occasion a small dessert and homemade liqueur were complimentary. The bill including the litre of wine was very reasonable around 40 euros. For good quality food and value for money I would definitely recommend...
