So, good things first. The town as a place is very pretty and has a great architectural and historic interest. And we are done with the good things I am afraid.

As mentioned above the old town is beautiful. Sadly, if you decide to go there during high season you will probably be unable to see any of that beauty simply because your eyes, ears and more or less the rest of your senses will be distracted (and not in a good way) from the chaos around you. To make a long story short (cause trust me I could go on and talk for days about the things I saw there during my 2 weeks stay), the massive tourism and all of the shops that have as a target the money of the masses of tourists won't allow you to focus on anything else. Hordes of people walking around, a number of souvenir and commercial shops that truly have nothing traditional to offer from Rhodes but only want to satisfy your inner consuming instinct (offering really cheap bs) will be all you can see. Let's not talk about all the guys from the local "restaurants, cafes, bars" will try to push you into their shops offering you products of questional quality with not such a charming way. It's really sad. Sad. The island itself is not bad, there are some really beautiful and interesting places but the people (interested only on the tourism) have completely destroyed it.

I have to also mention that I am Greek and I spent all of my summer's in Greek islands. First time I've been in Rhodes this year, sadly on a high season. I am disappointed. Truly. I've never seen this in any other place I've been before.

You have...

Ok.

The medieval town of Rhodes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, 1] was developed without specific planning around the fortress-citadel of Rhodes, probably after the earthquake of 515. [2] The fortress was divided into two distinct urban forms, Kolakio north and Chora south. Kolakio includes the well-known street of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Master or Castello, the Hospital that has been turned into a museum, temples of the Order and other important buildings. In the Chora lies the Turkish bazaar around the Suleiman Mosque, the old market and other buildings of tourist interest. According to a concise description on the official UNESCO website, the Ospitalians of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem occupied Rhodes Market for two and a half centuries, from 1309 to 1523, transforming the city into a strong fortress because of the particular fluidity and widespread conflicts of the time. The city was later successively occupied by Turkish [4] and Italian occupation. [5 It is considered one of the oldest active medieval cities and the meeting point of...

Old town of rhodos is a great place to be, as the historical buildings and street are kept so good, u feel like you are going back in time to the middle ages, castles knights, stone paved streets, and lots of history. But - the place is filled with tourist traps all over, - over priced street restaurants eith waiters trying to pull you in, extremly not worthy money exchange points, and plenty of adidos, reebuk, nyke and guchi that the sellsman promises you they are real . Some how they dont break the authenticity of the old town scene, cause this is probably exactly how it was happening during the middle ages

Rhodes is so much different to the other quieter cities, its surrounded by a huge wall. The hustle and bustle of the place is overwhelming but they are really friendly people. So many shops, resteraunts, castles and the Wall that the knights built its all to see. The waiters entice you in for food and drink and you just sit and watch the world go by. They even have there own parrots, great photo opportunities aspecially with the feral cats that roam about. A day isn't long enough but a few days would be nice, so many lovely eateries that sit above the main street.cant wait. Brilliant.
