We were super responsible and called about 30 minutes ahead to reserve a table. Got there, and somehow it had vanished from their system! No big deal, these things happen. We ended up waiting outside for another 20 minutes, which was fine—it looked busy and we were happy to be patient.
Finally got seated. Our waiter was an absolute legend—really funny and actually talked with us, not just at us. It’s that kind of personal touch you don’t see enough of anymore, and it honestly made the wait worth it.
We placed a pretty big order: we went for a xalouni, two pork steaks, a chicken breast, a carbonara, and a horiatiki salad.
Then came the first hiccup: after about 15 minutes, the waiter came back and let us know they’d just run out of pork steaks. A bummer, but we swapped one of them for a pork souvlaki instead.
Now, the food! The horiatiki salad was solid. The sheftalia was actually really delicious and the rice it came with was cool. Honestly, when the food came, most of it was decent and delicious.
The one real letdown was the pork souvlaki. It came out a bit pink and undercooked in the middle. You could tell they were rushing in the kitchen to get it out. We sent it back to get thrown on the grill for a few more minutes.
So, final take? Really liked our waiter, and most of the food was amazing. Just a shame about the reservation mix-up, running out of a main, and the undercooked souvlaki. We might give it another shot because the good was...
Read moreHad high hopes for this restaurant after i saw they had a 4.8 rating on google. It is located in a much more quiet part of the old town. Truth be spoken, I have no clue how they have managed to get such a great rating after eating there.
I had the grilled octopus and my partner had the pork souvlaki. The octopus was terribly though! I thought maybe that's what octopus is supposef to be like, but then i had a taste of my partner's souvlaki and it was even thougher than my octopus!
I can't even put words on how dissapointed i am in this restaurant when they can't even put togheter an ok souvlaki. I whole heartedly recommed people to stay away. You could pretty much go to any other restaurant in Rhodes town and have a better experience.
The server offered to switch my octopus to octopus salad, but i was so put off that my appetetite had gone.
P.S. ladies bathroom has no...
Read moreAt some point during your vacation in Greece, you might start to get bored with Greek food. Every place has a family restaurant and every place sells the same traditional meals.
That's how I felt when I stumbled upon At Thomas. Yet every single plate blew me away. Yes, it was the same sea bream, saganaki and souvlakis as every other restaurant; but somehow in At Thomas, they make them a notch above any other place we tried in Rhodes, Kos, Symi, Leros, Kalymnos or Nisiros.
We thought that can't be right with 4.8/5 reviews from hundreds of people - but yeah. We went twice because the food was so great and I feel it's well deserved for great service, as well as excellent food with great attention to detail with spicing, flavouring and cooking meats and fishes just...
