Rosemary doesn’t try to be anything other than its authentic self. A rare gem amongst a landscape of eateries that cater solely to a hungry tourist crowd with much of the same. I grew up just around the corner, and on my recent visit back home, I was so pleased to have found this place a few days before they closed for the season.
The food: Not pretentious. Simple. To be savoured. On the lighter side, which is a welcome respite from the more standardized traditional fare most often presented to tourists (and locals) in the area. Casual fare - hence the “street food” moniker - prepared with care!
If you want huge portions, faster food, and more of “the same greek”, (not that there is anything wrong with any of the above), then perhaps don’t eat here. But, if you are looking for a genuine meal with the care and craftsmanship of a trained chef who is interested in sharing and cultivating his passion, then allow yourself the opportunity to be fed at Rosemary.
Burrata salad, tzatziki, tiropitakia (feta triangles with honey and sesame), Vegetable Briam and Soutzoukakia all eaten and enjoyed. Non-alcoholic beer on the menu is always a welcomed addition.
And, let’s be completely open and honest - if you’ve travelled around Greece you know that public washrooms tend to land lower on the list of priorities for proprietors. Hands down Rosemary has the best/most spacious/cleanest washroom in all of Greece. Details matter - and if Rosemary cares enough about this important detail, then you can guarantee their genuine care for your enjoyment of your dining experience.
Final thoughts: Rosemary is not for you if you are looking for the stereotypical Greek experience. Rosemary is not for you if you are in a hurry. Rosemary IS for you if you want a wee change from the offerings at every other establishment...
Read moreA must visit in Rhodes – Truly exceptional Greek food and service.
Rosemary was easily one of the best dining experiences I had in Rhodes. Set in a peaceful spot away from the more tourist-heavy areas, it offers an authentic and genuinely welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
I started with the pork chops and was blown away. Not only were they absolutely massive for a starter, but they were hands down the best pork chops I’ve ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavour. I genuinely found myself wondering how they could be this good.
The rest of the food was just as impressive. Classic Greek dishes done right, with fresh ingredients and real care put into every plate. You can tell this place values quality over gimmicks and it shows.
The staff were outstanding. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to have you there without being pushy or overbearing. The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was smooth, and little touches like a warm conversation or a thoughtful recommendation made it all feel very personal.
If you’re looking to avoid the overly hyped tourist traps and want a true taste of Rhodes, Rosemary is it. I would go back to Rhodes just to...
Read moreLove this place for good, fresh, homemade food served with a smile. Highly recommend the (utterly delicious) fresh bread selection with dips as a starter on its own or to soak up the juices from the garlic mushrooms (had on consecutive nights as so good). The bechamel sauce on the stuffed aubergine papoutsakia was just perfect. You can go traditional with stifado etc or more 'snacky' here - the chicken burger in a homemade bun stalled my husband and the 'bifteki' (think feta-filled burger patty) was perfectly cooked - it's all good. Just leave room for the chocolate soufflé which is rich and gooey. Particularly liked the addition of cinnamon sticks in the sangria and the homemade mint syrup in the mojitos. Have not tried the wines yet. Child friendly. Sensible volume for the music. Spotless toilets. Noticed four or five parking spaces outside (we walked). You can spend 15 euros a head on just a main course with drinks or go all out with three courses and all the trimmings for 30-40 euros a head. Only wish we had found...
