Mythos Greek Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Symi

Arrived at the restaurant reading the menu’s cover claiming ‘Creative Greek cuisine’ we were coming with high expectations. We sat near the beer taps and were met with a guy scooping out the foam of a beer with a spoon because he didn’t know how to pour the beer or the barrel needed to be changed, you could see the sediment at the bottom of the glass. We ordered a couple of pasta dishes and while waiting for our food we noticed all of the chefs standing around in the kitchen scratching their ears or wiping their sweat with their hands without washing them, smoking cigarettes. We had already seen enough of this tourist trap to which we asked the waiter to cancel our order with the intention of just paying for the water and leaving, the waiter told us to wait 2 minutes, despite us telling our complaints multiple times we were met with argument and ignorance. The younger waiter was claiming the bread was made fresh 30 minutes ago, yet was stale and hard. Luckily we refused to eat the incredibly subpar food because no doubt they would’ve argued that we just wanted it for free because he was claiming we just wanted ‘an excuse to not pay for the food’ despite not even touching the plate! Food was decent, but nothing special. We shared saganaki with honey to start which was pretty good. We had gyros for main which was decent, but the chips were cold fairly bland.

The view of Symi harbour was great, but that’s true of every restaurant around the harbour.

It was really let down by the service. We were brought the wrong food to begin with. As someone else has mentioned, there seemed to be a lot of confusion among the staff about what each table had ordered.

The €1.30 per person fee for sitting at your table (for stale bread they bring whether you order it or not) is poor.

Once we had finished our meal we were planning to have another drink while we waited for our boat, however no waiters came to see us to see if we would like anything more, and our attempts to get their attention were a struggle too. In the end it was over 40 minutes before we were attended to again, so we just asked for the bill and left.

Another minor negative, I visited the toilet in this time, where there was no paper to clean yourself. I appreciate this happens and had no problem with that, but when I asked for some and waited more than 10 minutes for someone...

I find it very hard to believe this place has any positive reviews... The meat we were served was smelling old and it showed by the way it was cooked. We brought it up to the waiter, who in return said that they cook it well and shifted the blame to their supplier. We expected to not get charged for the portion of food that was smelly and obviously not edible, and in return we were told not to make a scene, because everyone likes what they send out. We were told we must pay for everything, because otherwise they would have to (???). The attitude of the waiters matched the quality of the food - rotten, rude and a complete mismatch with everything Greece has to offer.
