Mpakalikon — Restaurant in Municipality of Thessaloniki

I loved the atmosphere here, the food was fantastic too. It's not touristy, the locals eat here & that's why it's an authentic experience. We waited a very long time for the waiter - I think he didn't speak English & was scared, but the wait was worth it. We ate a delicious Roasted Eggplant (aubergine) starter with a great sauce, served with the most amazing warm & soft inside, crunchy outside bread rolls that were huge. Best bread in Thessaloniki. Main meals were Roast Pork, huge portion presented hanging vertically on a metal skewer that is really wow. The meat was delicious & tender, highly recommend. Also the Grilled Chicken Thigh Fillets were really big & the best I've eaten anywhere in the world & I've travelled a lot! Seasoned perfectly, cooked with all of its juices - the chef is a master. We had Grilled Vegetables, sliced Mediterranean veges with lovely balsamic. I wish I had longer in Thessaloniki so I could eat here...

I really wanted to leave my opinion on this place because it is one of those places that surprise you and make you want to return. We went the first time by chance and everything was perfect, good food, very good attention and great care in all details. An incredible bread, a small liqueur as a gift when you sit down, fresh food, in a large quantity and at a very good price. When we saw the place from the outside we thought it could be a bit expensive, but we were surprised when we paid and when we tried the quality of everything that the price was really good. Sometimes you can see one of the owners, serving her clients and worrying about your experience. If you are in the neighborhood, do not hesitate and enjoy an incredible Greek food in this great place. 100% recommended. The food was amazing, and delivered really fast, once you get to order. The bread is freshly baked and delicious, just perfect for dipping!

The place feels very warm and cozy with a retro greek hint to it.

Only problem i encountered was the service. 4 waiters, but only one is responsible for ordering, and that one just goes right through the place ignoring everyone, without even acknowledging that you call for her. Tables wanting to order are stacking up and when you complain or try really hard to get her attention the only response is a rude "wait". There was a table of elderly people right next to ours and when a patron complained of a risk of her husband falling into a hypoglycemic shock as they were trying to order for the past 30 minutes, all she got was attitude.

Again, the food was delicious but you have to put up with some attitude...
