We heard the ravings about this restaurant being the best in Thessaloniki, so with the opportunity to celebrate my older son's 18th birthday we just had to visit it! Salonika restaurant is situated within the Makedonia Palace Hotel, and it is clearly one, if not the most elegant hotel in the city. The views from inside the restaurant are pleasant because you get a nice picture of the waterfront and its ports. The service was very elegant and joyfull. I had the shrimp risotto, a t-bone, carbonara and a beef steak followed by a green salad with gorgonzola chesse grapes ans pears. The food was out of this world. My 12 year old who never eats more than 2 bites was asking me when we can come again after the first bite...and he ate most of his plate, not all because the portion was huge! The prices where a little on the high side, but at a restaurant of this caliber it should be expected. Its a good place for kids because of its spacious accomodations. The restrooms were emaculate as expected and you can find parking on the street or give it to a vallet. We will be going...
Read moreWe stayed at the beautiful Makedonia Palace for 6 days and enjoyed wonderful and delicious food in and around all the restaurants in Thessaloniki. We had heard the Head chef at Salonica was world renowned and the best chef in Greece. We were even more excited to know he was present for the lunch service we were heading to.
We ordered the Fillet of Salmon and Shrimp Giouvetsi. We were presented with a small slab of salmon, completely UNDER-SEASONED and bland. All the salt was then clearly used to season the Giouvetsi as it tasted like a hot salty mess. Plus the Shrimp was over-cooked and rubbery!! It was hands down the worst meal we had eaten on the trip and the most expensive. On what we were presented I would say Chef Sotiris Evangelou isn’t the best chef on the street let alone in Thessaloniki or Greece.
Please do not waste your time and money here and head over across the road. You will find far tastier food at a fraction of the price. Hugely...
Read moreGave overall 2 stars because the waiters gave OK service. The restaurant obviously trust you to full in love with the modern decor so much so they won't even season and salt the food nor garnish the plate. We were served eggplant salad that tasted like nothing, and we added more salt, olive oil and pepper. Then came seafood palea which was just yellow, no flavor. And last came today's dish: fish Bakala dry like desert Sahara sitting in a stain that was suppose to be a miso sauce. No veggie garnish, no taste, salty and dry. On the side, a huge ball of dry wild rice ( tried no to chock on it). Asked for some sauce, brought me thick white garlic sauce. Disappointing. Who are those chefs back in this kitchen that think it's ok to send out tastles, dry, salty plates in a 5 star hotel restaurant ???!!!...
