Alexander the Great Garden — Attraction in Municipality of Thessaloniki

Most visitors at some point will enjoy a walk at the "Nea Paralia" (New beach walk). Among others sights you'll reach the statue of Alexander the great riding his horse Bucephalas. A great spot to relax or snap a few photos.

Tutored by Aristotle until age 16 and succeeding his father to the throne at age 20, Alexander was awarded the generalship of Greece and created a vast empire stretching from Greece to northwestern India. However his legacy goes beyond military conquest. Trade between east and west was greatly increased and vast areas to the east were exposed to Greek civilization and influence. Many of the cities he founded became centers of culture and science. Alexander became legendary as a classical hero in the mold of Achilles. Military academies throughout the world still teach his tactics. He is often ranked among the most influential people in history and certainly one Greece's most important...

I have mixed feelings and emotions about the park and the statue. The openess of the park. The breeze and the views are unique. In the middle of the promenade the statue of Alexander the Great, riding his horse named Vookefala. Am I suppose to be inspired? fell proud? Is this a piece of art? Or should I cry or get upset from the graffiti put probably by some kids? None of the above. I take some pictures and continue my walk on this amazing promenada that sometimes I called Unique jewel of Thessaloniki or Greece or Europe. This is probably the only place that all Thessalonikians can be proud and call it theirs. Yes. The promenade is an extention of their homes and their hearts....
