First off, the time when they open on Google Maps is wrong. Showed up at 12 and went to go and it was pitch black inside. Asked a shop across the street and they said it opened at 2. Went and did stuff and still not open. They tell us 3. Finally, we showed up at 3 and they were open. Please update that because we came to Fira specifically to try your food and almost left because or the inaccuracy of the schedule on Google Maps.
We had been recommended this restaurant by blogs online and it had great reviews on here. I had to convince myself that it was mediocre. Got the moussaka and watched them pull it out of the microwave after the little timer went off. Not only was my meal lukewarm, the bottom was cold. I rarely ever say anything to the waiter/waitress to not be rude or make a scene, but I just won’t go back to a place for not having enough pride in their food to serve it better. Food is your art/craft and should be treated as such even if you are giving it to tourists. There was nothing special about the moussaka in my opinion. Bechamel wasn’t very tasty, meat wasn’t seasoned well. Feta me meli was good, but didn’t even have sesame seeds.
I think I may have left them a 3 star if it weren’t for the utter let down after waiting 3 hours for them to open. I personally don’t understand the hype. Karma in Oia has amazing moussaka while only being slightly more expensive. I’m not a sponsor of them lol I just want to...
Read moreGhastly server, disturbing experience. The food was unremarkable, the experience was utterly horrid. We arrived to a half empty restaurant to be told by the tall, loud, Western European server that the food order wait was 20min but we could sit at a choice of 4 empty tables for drinks and wait. Moments later an elderly oriental couple did the same but were told by him to ‘go away’ for 30min, so they sat on chairs directly outside the restaurant and waited patiently. Next, another couple appeared, clearly from the same country as the server, they were met with smiles and shown to an empty table, their dinks and food orders taken immediately. The oriental couple came back in and were barked at again to wait outside. 40min on, we finally got to order our drinks and food, while another 3 tables were happy filled by arriving Western European guests. Now an hour on, the elderly oriental couple came back into the restaurant to ask why they were being ignored, the server practically shoved the lady out of the restaurant, gesturing angrily that they should go away. We were so shocked, we stood up, left our meals, paid our bill at the counter and walked out. This guy is a despicable so I fully expect him to deny these events or suggest we are fake customers in response, so I have posted...
Read moreWe were recommended to come here from our hotel and boy were we pleased. We had a long day of traveling and we’re on our honeymoon so we went for an early dinner around 5pm so it wasn’t too crowded. We were kindly greeted by Elena who served us through the entire dinner. It was like being home. She talked us out of ordering too many apps so we could really appreciate dinner
We had a Greek salad to start and then Lamb Kleftiko special and the Moussaka. Both were SO good. Elena then surprised us with some Greek yogurt with strawberry preserves for dessert. It was perfect.
Nikolas Tavern is where you want to go when you want to feel at home. It’s like having grandmas Greek cooking made just for you. The service is on island time but she’s the only one handling the floor so be kind and patient. The food is worth it!
After trying several other spots feeling like they were just so touristy we ended up going back a second time. She remembered us which was so nice and comforting. The food was just as good. Loved the tomato fritters!
We can’t wait to go back to Santorini and especially can’t wait to go back to visit Elena and eat at Nikolas...
