Taverne syrtaki — Restaurant in Municipality of Thira

This was our experience on May 5, 2024. We wanted to order grilled lamb chops/$25 euros and grilled octopus$21 euros. The waiter tried to have us order the special lamb dish for $15 euros. After, showing me how they prepared it, I finally changed my mind and go with what the waiter suggested, the special lamb of the day for $15 euros and grilled octopus. The lamb was OK, nothing special, no grilled flavor, the grilled octopus was just also OK, nothing special, although the portion size was good. The bead, fries, tomatoes, and tzaziki were good.

Then I went to pay, the cashier asked me for the card to punch through, so I gave him my card... BIG MISTAKE. I was charge $25 for the special lamb and not $15... they definitely are cheating people on the bill based on what I read from other reviews as well. They would not refund me the over charge and tried to say That Was The Price. So, if you pay by charge ask to see the final bill amount. We will also keep an eye on our card for any unauthorized...

I am extremely disappointed at my experience at this place as they cheated me. First they are short of begging people to come to which my feels bad and ask me to give them business. We order food and food arrives borderline adequate. I ask for the bill. When I inspect the bill i see a charge for 2 euros that was not mine. So I ask. I’m told it’s for the paper they put on the table. When I expressed my gratitude for not charging me any other overheads the waiter says okay I will take it off. On principle that was wrong. I only had 3 menu items so I could check properly items charged. I wish good luck to all the customers who don’t even ask for bill but rather the total and pay blindly. Please ask for a bill before paying. As for me I won’t be coming to this...

To be honest, the food was not amazing! I was craving some seafood as the place is by the port so I kind of expected to be blown away by freshness of produce and implies of the dishes. They were very average unfortunately! Greek salad which I was buzzing for was also below average - and it’s such a simple dish! But the olive oil tasted weird and cheap and was definitely not a good quality one. Chicken souvlaki was dry and overcooked, calamari soaked in oil. The fried cheese was good though! The staff was super friendly and made the experience much better, but overall I don’t think I’d recommend stopping there for food. Maybe for a quick drink if you’re down there in the Old Port, but...
