While on a small Yacht visiting Santorini we were dropped off by tender at the base of Fira for the cable car ride up the hillside. Much to our disappointment there was 4-5 large cruise ships there too and the wait for the cable car ride was 2 hours in intense sun/heat. We walked along the waterfront and much to my luck stumbled across Lombranos. I usually research every place we go before hand but this was pure luck and already rated 4.8 stars which is totally accurate IMO. The server had some long Greek name that sounded like Mikeotopolis but that didn't matter as he was a super nice guy and set us up with exactly what we wanted. We sat at a waterfront table under a big umbrella which was welcome given the August heat. We ordered two to drinks, Favabean appetizer, and grilled Octopus. We easily spent an hour and half there talking with Mike and other guests just having a great Greek time! We had hoped the line for the Cable car would shrink by time we were done but it was still about 90 minutes at 3pm so we called it a day and went back to our boat. Long story short this is an authentic place, with good people, not trying to rip you off like many tourist traps. We fully enjoyed our meal, time there, and felt the prices were reasonable! Highly...
Read moreWhen you travel and if you are lucky enough you might meet randomly incredible persons which they will share their story and their world intimately with you. This one was one of them.
What a joy we had meeting a young man with a big heart and a larger than life generosity.
The owner which the name of the restaurant is his family name.
He is the 3rd generation being raised and running the business after he traveled around the world to learn, study and volunteer.
Imagine sharing such intimate love story for the world, food, Greece and peace while eating a home made seafood delight? Fresh sea food great by its simplicity. Heaven is the word.
He might suggest you alternatives if he doesn't have what you want from the menu. That is because he buys daily and freshly from the market.
Prices: Very humble and perfect.
Location: an experience by it self, you have to take the cable car down to the little port, walk left and you shall find Lombranos. Bear in mind that the last cable car goes up at 23h.(not related to the restaurant but it does cost 12 euros round trip).
I advise you to book and go for an early eve dinner the sunset is gorgeous by the Port. Won't find a great cocktail but you will find a local aperitivo and a heart...
Read moreI would even give 6 stars if i could. Lombranos is hands down the best restaurant on the whole island. Absolutely the best fish and seafood i have had in my life (and i myself am a mediterranean). I went all the stairs twice down and up for this restaurant.
Personally, I like to get in touch with locals and experience local food. And this was the only restaurant in Fira where I can have this experience. Santorini is very touristic so most restaurants offer 'mainstream' dishes. Lombranos is where the locals come to eat.
Food: I was eating with pleasure.. I love sea food and fish and it was the best I ever had.
Location: best in the evening, get a table near the water to see the lights of fira above. Its very quiet in the evening far away from busy fira streets.. only the sound of water and live greek music in the background. The lights are dimmed, not very bright so it is best for a romantic dinner date.
Service: the owner and the serving lady are very friendly. The lady even helped the guy next to us to debone his fish. We had some desserts on the house from the owner at the end which also incredible.. Joghurt honey.. Its a must...
