We stumbled across this restaurant, thinking we were in luck because it had lovely views of the sunset and we hadn't made a reservation. Unfortunately, it was not luck and we had a terrible experience here. We waited 45 minutes for our starters. We wouldn't have had an issue, if it wasn't for all the tables (who ordered after us) received their starters and mains in this time. We politely (being British) asked 2 different people about this delay and they went off, no explanation, no apology. 1 minute after receiving the starter our main was delivered. We had to send it back as barely had time to pick up the cutlery for the starter. After starters, plates were removed and 1 main was delivered. We had both ordered the same meal, but one 1 plate was brought out. Why no-one questioned this we have no idea. He went off after we said we had ordered 2 and never came back. Again no explanation, no apology. We then waited a further 20 minutes for another dish to come out. By this time I had finished my meal. We went as a couple, but didn't get to eat together. It appears that they hadn't ordered both meals as it was added at the end of the bill, so it wasn't sat waiting to come out like we had thought. Had someone come back to explain the issue, we could have sent back the first dish and had them together, especially if we had known it was going to be a further 20 minutes. 2 minutes, fine, even 5 minutes. Another point to note, that if the second dish wasn't eaten we still would have eaten separately and would have had to wait even longer at another restaurant. When it came to asking for the bill the waiter asked if everything was OK. We explained the issues we had experienced and he simply said "not good" and walked off. Someone came over with 2 ouzo's. I don't know if this was to appease us or if this is standard, but I do not drink so it did not make up for the issues. When we went to pay the bill we asked if there could be a discount of the second main for the issues we had had. The waiter said "you eat, you pay". We did eat them, but we're given no other option really, as stated above. We said not 1 person came to explain the issue and not 1 person has apologised which would have gone a long way. In response to this he said sometimes you have a bad day and mistakes happen, still no apology. He went off to speak to the manager who said they wouldn't take anything off the bill. I said we won't pay at all (I never would have left without paying) and him and another waiter stood in front of me so I couldn't even stand up. Again I said they haven't accepted they made the mistake or still apologised, and that they have made it out to be our fault. He said he had apologised. When I called him out on this he said he thought it and meant to say it. I told him we would be leaving 1 star reviews and he said that's fine. I guess it doesn't bother them as visitors don't find them on Google first. We ended up paying the whole bill, just to move on with...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Fanari restaurant near the center of Fira (Thira) Santorini while walking along the beautiful and narrow cobblestone alleys that hug the coastline and caldera view. We had arrived later than the typical lunch hour due to our transfer from Crete that morning. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and promptly served. We enjoyed lunch and left commenting that we might want to make a sunset dinner reservation in the next days. Two days later we emailed in the morning asking for a sunset dinner reservation. I was surprised to receive an email reply in the affirmative within 30 mins. Upon arrival that evening, we were greet and promptly seated. Shortly afterwards one of our waiters from two days before recognized us and welcomed us back. Shortly another member of the staff also greeted us and thanked us for returning. As before, the meal was served relatively quickly considering the amount of people there for sunset dinner reservations. The staff were so conscientious and moved very quickly from table to table and task to task. None of the “let them wait” attitude you find in so many touristy places. The meal was fantastic as expected. After dinner we were treated to ouzo and some local cinnamon cake bites which was lovely. The wait staff were generally interested in getting to know us and offered to take pics for us off one of their beautiful ledges overlooking the caldera. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. From the atmosphere to the incredible, friendly and efficient wait staff, to the excellent food served warm. If you have a visit to Santorini, please make this one of your planned stops for lunch or a romantic...
Read moreCould not be more disappointed and disgusted. We had a dinner reservation for 7, booked a day prior so we thought wow very lucky to get in given all the great reviews. On arrival, an air of panic with servers trying to figure out where to seat reservations. Were then walked from one area to the next to try to find a spot - though found a lovely spot! Again; beautiful view and very thankful. Sat down at 7:05, first picture I took was 7:07. Proof attached. No one checked in on us or asked us for a drink order until we got up to leave at 7:27. Another table around us had tried to find someone to take their order also, stood up and tried to flag someone though no one came. As we were leaving, the man at the door asked us how we are - he had just arrived from downstairs! I responded that we were going to leave given it had been 20 minutes and no one had served us. To this, he very rudely put his hand up to tell me to shush and sarcastically stated “20 mins?! 10 at most!” I said no it has been 20 minutes. To this he again, very aggressively, stated “we are leaving because we wanted to watch the sunset and it looks bad on us not them” and proceed to use his hand gestures to shoo us off. To be fair, if that’s all we wanted, there were plenty of restaurants around this one with empty first line tables. We wanted a drink with the sunset and to have dinner at this beautiful restaurant. To be this aggressive and unapologetic is very frankly unacceptable in hospitality! Learn to take feedback and rectify your incompetence. Wish we got the man’s name to put in a...
