This used to be one of my favourite places for seafood in Athens. It has a stunning location and is famous for grilling fresh large fish. As a result, it is also very expensive. This is the first place I set foot in Greece and cant get there quick enough after getting off the plane.
I liked to entertain friends and family at Lambros as I knew the place is reliable and could guarantee the highest quality of seafood.
Unfortunately on my last visit (sometime in early August) the whole experience was off from the beginning. Reserved a table for dinner for a group of 4. Upon arrival the waiter informed us that 90% of the fish menu was not available. There were only 3 small fish to order from. For a place whose unique selling point is grilling large fish this is unfortunate. I would have appreciated a call from the restaurant to let us know in advance about the situation so we could make other plans (it is perfectly understandable that they can run out of fresh fish and should let customers with reservation know in advance to make other arrangements if they wish). I tried to find alternatives from the menu by getting one of the small fish and supplementing with grilled prawns. The waiter informed us that no prawns were available either, at least the fresh ones. There was availability for frozen prawns but would not recommend them.
Eventually we ordered squid and starters that you can get anywhere for a fraction of the price and went to the counter to see the 3 fish that remained available. Upon checking with the counter, prawns were available (but nowhere to be seen). The counter tried to sell us frozen prawns by passing them on as fresh and charging us the full price of the fresh ones. At the end we got 2 of the small fish left and they were served overcooked.
We paid 250 euro for 4 people and left disappointed and embarrassed in front of our guests.
The next day we contacted the restaurant to provide feedback. The lady we spoke to brushed us off and told us the manager was not available and that we should call back later (instead of taking our contact details for them to call back as this was in their best interests). I decided to downgrade the rating from 5 stars to two (1 for the amazing location and 1 for the honesty and service of the waiters) and leave no comments, but now the restaurant wants a public explanation here it is. They could have taken it in a private phone call if they cared a bit more.
They have not just lost a loyal customer but also one of their biggest...
Read moreSo this is what happened today. I am not from anywhere near Greece. Spoke English to the waiter when he took my order. I asked if they have beers. He said yes, mentioned all it's names. Of which I could not register it. And just said one of its name. And he said ok.. My beer came. I care less to check if it's the correct beer cos I wasn't sure myself. I poured the beer. It was flat. I drank a little and it was really flat.... I looked at the back it says Best before 25 May 2025. That's over 2 weeks past!
I called the waiter. He took my bottle. The guy who then came to take my order said we are changing your beer. I asked him, how can this happen that you are serving expired beers? He casually said "It happens" I was like huh.. I told him this is the first time I have ever encountered this in a restaurant. He said it's still ok to drink it but no problem I will replace it. I could't believe... I told him... What! .... Again he said it happens and he walks off.... No apologies said. Another beer came (this one looks like the one I actually ordered). So the first expired one was actually something else which they brought over but really not something I ordered.
Another server came and apologized after hearing the expired beer from me.
At the end when the original guy came to clear my table. He apologized for the expired beer and said we won't charge for that beer. I asked for the bill. The bill came and the beer which I did not order (that was expired) was waived off.... (ya waived off for something I did not order and that was expired) The original beer which I ordered was in the bill! Shocking, I paid for it.... I care less to say anything really seeing the attitude and service recovery (or lack of it) .... But yes this whole episode actually happened.
Good food though unfortunately. Just beware of the waiter who takes...
Read moreA big shame! Once a great place to go, today turned into a chaotic, bad service place with very disappointing food. Arriving there, we were seated, no water being brought, not being asked for any drinks, had to call for the menus and order some drinks after 15min. 1 drink came and the other drink 10 min later! Then we ordered some food. Starters- Steamed Mussels , shrimp saganaki, 1 butter sole and one grilled sole with fries. The first dish to arrive was French fries which was supposed to be with the fish. Then the mussels which were so overdone that they become deep orange and 1/10th of the shell. Had to send this plate back, even the waitress who took it said” what is that? Did they serve you that” The shrimp saganaki tasted like heinz ketchup with 4 dry shrimps. Too sweet, no fresh tomato, no herbs, no onion. Like you bought a can for 1,50 eur.... honestly, the worst I have ever tasted. The plates that were ready were never removed in between... they took the plates after we told them and then left the pan with saganaki with the two empty shrimp heads... What else? For those that eat sole.... know that the classic way is to eat it baked in butter.. I ordered one grilled and one in butter... When the order came, I grilled and the other deep fried in oil. When I told the waiter that I ordered one in butter, the waiter told me:” this is how we prepare it” A long discussion till he finally understood that I wouldn’t eat the deep fried sole, he asked me... “ so what do you want me to do? Do you want another fish.... ? Yes! Finally got the fish baked in butter as it should .... Then the manager came and excused himself for all that went wrong with the mussels and the sole... Anyway, think before you go there as there are other “taverna’s” that have 10 times better service and quality of food that is an x-fold better!
