Ostria Beach Restaurant Bar — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

RUINED OUR DAY. Never been treated this disrespectfully. We went for dinner to this place and I ordered grilled squid. Unfortunately it was very badly done, burnt and not eatable. The waitress was super helpful and offered me to replace the food, so I took a Greek salad instead. She then came back and told me the owner still wants me to pay for the squid (that was taken away from me right away), which was not part of her original offer. Also, the owner did not want to come up to me herself so I had to go there, looking for a quick conversation about what was going on. That did not happen. She immediately started yelling at me and did not even let me finish one sentence. All in front of a full restaurant, screaming at me pretending I did not want to pay for my dinner at all. It was so bad, I had tears in my eyes when we left. I ended up paying 40€ for this dinner, that left me stressed out, angry and just really sad. I have never experienced anything like this before, especially because I kept a polite manner during the whole time. Please do not go there and I hope this woman will notice she cannot treat people like this when there is a minor...

We used the sunbeds owned by Ostria and the experience wasn't the best. I was charged 10€ for a set of sunbeds (we had found 3 together, with one table and umbrella between them). To my understanding this was a set, although the lady came and asked us to pay an extra 5€ for the third sunbed- but perhaps this was a misunderstanding on my part. However, when paying for the sunbeds initially I was told we were expected to use the restaurant for food and drink and not just 'sit around for a few hours'. I thought this was rather strange to ask, as we were paying to use the sunbeds anyway.. Finally, I ordered a drink as I payed for the sunbeds, which was put into a cup. Around 15 minutes later, the same lady went around, checking my cup and asking what it was, to make sure I wasn't drinking anything purchased from elsewhere-I had to remind her I had just brought this from her, which she was fine with. This 'checking' definitely made me feel a bit stupid, as if she considered us to be untrustworthy. Overall, we visited other places to use their sunbeds and had a much more...

On the subject of food, we were very disappointed with our dishes. Cheeseburger was real beef patty well cooked and presented, somewhat tasteless cheese but fresh salad was fine too. Chips were the worst I've seen, cooked in over-used oil and looked like scaps compared to real chips Ive seen elswhere from simple outlets - see photo. Perhaps ask for burger - no chips! An even worse experience was how Ostria thought it okay to present a salmon risotto that looked so aweful and was actually tasteless except for the one ingredient - bits of salmon. We were told that greek risotto is different from italian risotto! Verdict: I've seen dishes of pasta and risotto served up at Ostria and just like the chips mentioned above, none showed any cooking skills that you would want to eat. Music okay, drinks okay, outlook towards sea fine. Beach area is for towels only due to legal constraints and heavy fines - good if you are an unsuspecting beach-comber looking for a place to relax...
