Café San Rafael in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, is a gem for coffee lovers seeking an exceptional brew in a charming setting. Renowned for its dedication to quality, this café sources its coffee beans from local farms, ensuring a fresh and authentic taste that highlights the rich flavors of Honduran coffee.

The coffee at Café San Rafael is nothing short of extraordinary. Each cup is expertly brewed, whether you prefer a classic espresso, a creamy cappuccino, or a smooth pour-over. The baristas are highly skilled, passionate about their craft, and always willing to share insights about the coffee-making process. The result is a consistently excellent cup of coffee that stands out for its robust flavor, aromatic profile, and perfect balance.

The café itself is cozy and inviting, with rustic décor that reflects the local culture and heritage. The outdoor seating area, surrounded by lush greenery, provides a peaceful spot to savor your coffee while enjoying the serene ambiance of Copán Ruinas.

In addition to coffee, Café San Rafael offers a selection of delicious pastries and light bites, making it an ideal place for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Coffee is out of this world, truly one of the best coffee drinks in all of Honduras. The food is fantastic and the deserts are exquisite. The one and only huge downside is the service and the staff's general attitude. It shows they either haven't received proper training, are overworked or just don't want to be there. We visited twice with my whole family. Both times as soon as we walked in we were marveled by the beauty of the place, but we did not receive a single "hello" or "welcome". Since it was our first time there we stood around the entrance hoping that someone would guide us or tell us where we could order; none of these happened. The staff just stood there leaning on the coffee bar, staring at us judgingly as if we were supposed to know where to go. We had to ask "should we order at the bar or at the table?" to which the youngest of the staff responded "table" in a sarcastic tone. Once we figured out seating by ourselves, while accommodating for 2 elderly members of our family, a waiter finally approached. After that, ordering was hard, especially since the waiter gave us very vague answers to our questions; they were not well informed at all on allergens in their meals and drinks. Next time we are in Copan we will try to order from San Rafael to be delivered...

We gave them a chance to fix it. They refused.

We went for breakfast today. . Very expensive but ok it’s a tourist village, a really cool village.

Breakfast was OK. Asked for my eggs over medium and they came uncooked but ok.

The coffee here is a BIG deal. I got a French press. It was VERY weak. The server gave some lame excuse that it was supposed to be that way. Weak coffee. Who wants weak coffee. It was hot and brown , I drank it away. It was hot and my first cup of the day. The server came back and asked if I wanted another. I said no this wasn’t good. Instead of saying he would immediately replace it or deduct the cost. Nope 👎. Then specifically asked him to remove the charge. Nope 👎. Said that the manager would come talk with us. Nope 👎. We said that we are here five days and wouldn’t come back. Didn’t care.

👎Simple breakfast for six $85.

Bad customer service. All for a cup of coffee. Oh well. There are lots of restaurants here. No tourists but lots of...

San Rafael remains the G.O.A.T. of hot sauce in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, and the reigning champion is still Ms. Habanero Azz Blaster herself. This time we stayed for a full meal. Since the restaurant is connected to a dairy farm, the obvious choice was the grilled cheese and tomato soup — nothing short of DIVINE. Our waiter happily brought an array of hot sauces, and we paired them with their impressive selection of German beers and imported whiskeys. Just as memorable as the food was the outstanding staff, whose warmth and attentiveness made the entire dining experience perfect. And then, of course, the hot sauces. The lineup has something for everyone — from the mild Jalapeño Cilantro Pesto to the lively Mango Habanero, all the way to the queen of fire herself, the Carolina Reaper (pro tip: she pairs beautifully with avocado). Whether you’re a foodie, a flavor-seeker, or a full-on hot sauce fanatic, this spot is an absolute must in Copán Ruinas.

Overall the ambiance is great. The servers are pleasant and accommodating. The food quality is quite good. My issue is that they have “malteadas” (milkshakes) on the menu which say are made with ice cream and cream (milk is fine). The server said they are made with milk and ice…seriously! He ordered the Philly cheese steak with fries and it was good. It was served on Texas toast and quite delicious. I ordered the cobb salad and it was disappointing. I chose this restaurant because I really wanted a great SALAD! What I received was a cut up cucumber, a sliced tomato, a nicely cut avocado, with some pieces of sautéed chicken, and a cut up roll. It was far from the SALAD I wanted that should have had lettuce. I expected more for the general quality of the overall experience.

GRILLED CHEESE AND ESPRESSO What a great place to get a loaded grilled cheese sandwich with your choice of protein . Includes a side , bread feels fresh, and filling. Afterwards you can’t go wrong with an espresso. National barista champion Carlos is always there prepping drinks. Don’t forget to purchase a bag of beans since these are freshly roasted and work great with pour over methods. Ohhh and I almost forgot ! They are known for their hot sauces. Honestly.... everything they sell is good. Buy all the flavors you think are interesting cause I’m sure you’ll love them
