Not much left here in Copán in the way of ruins or artifacts since the best of them have been getting sold off to the highest bidder over the last century. A bit sad to see the replicas and low quality misrepresented pieces that remain. Now, in the 21st century the history of these orioles has been all but lost. We can only enjoy looking at the few pieces too large to move or too undesirable to be valuable that remain while using our imagination as to what society may have been like here so long ago. Don’t waste your time or money asking anyone about what you’re looking at, if anyone knows the real history of the area they’re not around and not telling. Most of what you will see/read/hear while here is fiction. Still, there is are powerful lessons to be learned here and much to be reflected on. This small museum in particular is free right now, and one of the most professional displays in...

This is a small museum, but the artifacts and signage are both very good. Most signs are in both Spanish and English. The descriptions are brief, but to the point. I prefer that to the long detailed descriptions that put me to sleep half way through! There is also some beautiful artwork portraying hypothetical scenes from Mayan life that I really enjoyed.

Overall, this is an outstanding museum and definitely worth a visit if you are in Copan Ruinas. The entry price is currently L200 ($8.00USD) which is a little steep, in my opinion, for the size of the display. Hence, I deducted one star from my evaluation. All other aspects of the museum are five star performance.

They are open until 9PM, so it makes for a nice stop...

Absolutely a must, if you stay in Copan. After or before the visit of the ruins. The exhibition is small, but you get a lot of information to get everything in a historical context. It takes 30 minutes, it is air conditioned . My visit was in Nov. 2024. When I arrived, it was closed, but I asked a policeman in front. Opening time was in fact from 2pm to 3pm. I did spend one hour waiting time in the lovely park in front, a little bit in the church nearby and had a coffee somewhere. It was...

Although small, the museum's exhibitions and narratives provide a fresh perspective, particularly through its maps, iconography (based on the artifacts), and artifacts. While it may appear to be just another small museum to the average visitor, archaeology enthusiasts are likely to find meaningful inspiration here! English explanations are provided, along with QR codes for additional information. This museum is open until 9 PM (Sunday), with an entry fee of $8 or 200 L.
