Oasis is the perfect welcome to Roatan dining. In a relaxed atmosphere conducive to Caribbean life, you will discover some of the best food on the island served in what I can only call laid-back efficiency. What I mean by that: the staff bring you what you want, when you want, how you want, but effortlessly, with a desirable island nonchalance of no worry, all is good. The menu varies as you would want, according to fresh seasonal availability of the finest ingredients, but there are always the reliable favorites, including the truly famous chipotle-glazed baby back ribs, which, no joke, I believe are the best in the world. Really. The seafood is extraordinary, served as you like combined with fresh pasta or fluffy rice or in a tasty curry, with sides of a variety of vegetables, or their unique Asian slaw. Depending on availability, expect snapper, wahoo, or a special treat of hogfish. The beef is equal to the task as well, cooked to the perfect temperature of your choice. The smokey jerk chicken rounds things out, almost impossibly juicy and tender, making selection from the menu even more difficult. But I get ahead of myself, because we cannot forget the incredible appetizers, including our personal favorites, the exquisitely seasoned grilled octopus or another famous Oasis dish, the firecracker cauliflower. But by no means is that comprehensive, because Oasis starts out strong with its creative starters.
Even with this extraordinary presentation of delicious meals, the evening would not be complete without an appropriate cocktail, or two. The bar exceeds every expectation, with an impressive array of spirits, carefully hand-crafted drinks, old standards like a mojito or rum punch, imported beers (a rarity on the island), and imaginative mocktails made to order.
On the other end of this dining experience, you will encounter the disturbingly irresistible desserts. Saving room for these sweets may be a challenge, but worth the effort. My wife’s favorite is the spicy chili chocolate torte while I typically gravitate to the Snickers-inspired serving. I am no fan of key lime pie, but plenty of our friends are, and they consistently rave about that dessert as well.
All of the above is critically important, but in the end misses the most important point. I struggle to describe properly the pleasing, warm, welcoming, open-arms, big hugs, come-on-in, atmosphere of home. Dining at Oasis embraces you with the joy of a home-cooked holiday meal with family and friends. It is truly like that. Fun, relaxed, warm, fulfilling. Topping that off is the inviting surrounds of a garden of mint and basil along the railings of the outdoor (covered) seating, highlighted with twinkling festive string lights all coming together to create a relaxed festive...
Read moreSuper disappointed in this restaurant. We waited weeksss for them to open, but then, after we drove all the way there for a special occasion, we were turned away because they said that they were “too busy.” They had tables (and the entire bar) open, but said that they were “waiting for a reservation” so we couldn’t stay.
Honestly, never in my life have I been turned away from a restaurant… I’ve been asked to wait for long periods of time, but I’ve never asked to leave. It’s too bad because little did they know that I had been checking their website AND Instagram every single day awaiting their reopening. Little did they know that I was talking about them and recommending them (without even previously visiting) to everyone that I talked to. Little did they know that it was my anniversary with my boyfriend today and we chose to have our special date night with them. Granted in hindsight I guess we could have made a reservation, but we were prepared to wait as long as it took… Instead, we were asked to leave. What a disappointment.
I’m no longer excited to recommend a restaurant that I’ve never eaten at, so for that, I give...
Read moreToo Americanized! NEVET COMING BACK NEVER RECOMMENDING… Well, it is an American restaurant for expatriates, after all… So, if you want to experience the same kind of “order, eat, and move on, vacate my table” kind of service… then give them a try. This is our third time here, and it is worse every time. If you don’t make a reservation WAY in advance you are made to feel like a 2nd class citizen, “we are doing you a favor to allow you to eat here”, so come quickly and get out. We called same day for reservation. We arrived at 6:30PM, and we were seated in the HOT sección, by the bar. While all the nicer and cooler tables on the open porch were empty… The food ingredients quality is also going down. Lots of potatoes and fried sides to fill you up, and very minute portions of greens, 8 chickpeas to be exact with my tenderloin, and one pound of potatoes… 6 oz of local meat at the most. The hostess practically came and grabbed the bill from our table, to once more, let us know… if you are done, “get...
