It's a nice café with a pretty decent selection of drinks like hot chocolate (with or without alcohol), teas and of course coffees. There are some nice craft beers and a few wisely chosen quality wines available in their menu :) The staff is friendly and give you this laid-back at-home kinda feeling where you're comfortable spending a fair amount of time there. Also, some sweet and salty home-made snacks are available, the ones I tried were really tasty. To be honest the amaretto hot chocolate didn't really impress me. It wasn't bad or anything but for "one of the best places for hot chocolate" guess I had higher expectations 😅 The hot tea drink with rum and lemon was really good though! The place is neatly decorated, centrally located and gives you a warm cozy feeling. Apart from the fact that it's pretty open-space so when its full it gets a bit loud, its a cool spot to hang out, solo or with friends for some drinks. Staff also speak English 😊

📍A charming time-capsule in the heart of Budapest. Honestly, I thought I time travelled just by stepping inside, and sitting amongst vintage, mid-century style furniture. ✨ You wouldn’t believe that it is right next to one of the most busy streets, as it is located in a quiet neighbourhood. It’s definitely a whole vibe itself. 🍸 We ordered cocktails (Pink Flamingo and Midnight Bells), which were decent quality at a great price. We almost couldn’t find anything like this in Budapest nowadays. The taste of alcohol was detectable as quite strong, but the cocktail size was huge. Great value for money. 👌I would come again to try other items on their menu. To me this coffee house has great potential.

📍Location: Cafe Zsivago is a hidden gem on a side street, yet still close to Andrássy Avenue. Step inside and you'll feel like you've entered Imperial Russia 🇷🇺 with its wooden stairs and cozy decor. There's plenty of seating, including small private sections perfect for a date. ☕ Drinks: Despite its tucked-away location, prices are reasonable, and they have a huge drink selection. I had a hot chocolate, which was unfortunately quite thin and lacked real chocolate flavor. Adding other flavors didn't help much. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: The lady at the counter seemed a bit tired and burnt out, but she made my drink quickly, so no complaints on speed.

It's a very beautiful place, the ambiance is cozy, and also the food/drink offer is good. If you plan to go there, make sure to bring cash, as cards are not accepted. Also, try to find a place with good ventilation as it was a bit too warm on the second floor next to the stairs during winter.

Unfortunately, we felt very uncomfortable with the way one of staff members treated us. First time I went with 1 friend and we loved the place, so we went a second time with 6 friends for which we called to reserve a table. There was a mixed-up on their side regarding the reservation. When we arrived around 6:20pm we were told we could take a table upstairs which was available until 8pm, but apparently they had already booked the same table for 7pm as well. So at 7pm, the guy comes to tell us that the table is reserved, but since we had already ordered food and drinks accordingly, we asked for a solution. Instead of acknowledging the mistake and offering an alternative, he made it his job to make us feel bad about losing the other reservation because they gave us a wrong time. We ended up leaving shortly after as we didn't feel comfortable or welcome there. At least before leaving, when we were paying, he apologized and recognised that the issue was because his colleague gave us a wrong time. We accepted the apology, but it doesn't make up for the unnecessary bad treatment and how uncomfortable we felt while there.

My recommendation to the staff: I know the job can be stressful and not easy, but please try to handle this kind of situations better in the future. We can all make mistakes, but when it's on your side, acknowledge it and try to find a solution, don't blame who...

We were a groupe of five. We waited near the bar to order for more than 15 minutes because, even though there were only two people orderimg before us, it took the two waitresses that long to process their order. While waiting, we were of course talking to each other. But the moment the waitresses finished with the previous customers, they immediately got irritated and rude and literally told us: "If you want to talk you can talk somewhere else, if you want to order it is here". I personally frezeed after that comment, wondering if I should bother to reply. In normal circunstances I would have left immediately, but this time I decided not to complain because it was my friend's birthday and I didn't want to ruin it. Yet the moment I started to tell what I wanted to order, the waitress had already lost her (clearly non existent) patience and shifted towards the customer after us, ignoring us completely. I don't understand why anyone would pay for being treated like shit. The service was extremely...

A really wonderful and cozy place to spend the evening at. Prices are very cheap and the hot chocolate I had was so good. The decor is stunning and the atmosphere is unlike any other place I've been to - the live performances make it even better. However I think the service could have been better. I felt like our waiter was a little shy, possibly because we spoke English and not Hungarian, or maybe he was just busy because the café tables were all but packed with customers. I don't mind this very much but a friendly waiter would have made the atmosphere that much warmer and more welcoming. I also had hoped that the café would offer more food options, especially pastries as there are only a handful to choose from, and unfortunately there are very very few salty snacks as well which is a shame. Regardless of all this I very much recommend this hidden gem. Spending the evening here with a cup of tea, listening to live music and taking in the beautiful decor is truly a relaxing experience in such...
