Initially i didn't plan to write a bad review but after realizing the rip off, i changed my mind. I chose the paprika-chicken and my choice of side dish was "over-ruled" by the persuasive waitress. She recommended the "dumplings" (galuska) as perfect fit, so i followed her advice. What arrived was traditional noodles which were totally sticky, drowned in a characterless paprika sauce which could have used more spices as I expected from the Hungarian cuisine. On top were 2 chicken legs that were definitely not fresh prepared. I noticed that also other guests were recommended to take the dumplings and i imagined a big pot of pre-boiled noodles in the kitchen that had to be emptied. I was too polite to complain and wouldn't write this critic if i wouldn't have noticed (later) that the Palinka shot I ordered cost 2890 Forint (7 €) and made up more than half of the whole dish. I compared prices the next day and this clearly is a rip-off! Stupid me decided to tip 10% and just noticing later that a tip of 13,5% was already added automatically. As an open-minded first-time visitor to Budapest who wanted to experience the Hungarian cuisine this turned out to be a big disappointment which casts a shadow and would reflect on the country in general if i wouldn't be reflective enough to limit this experience on a single restaurant that desperately tries to get more customers by pushing the clients to leave a review. Well,...
Read moreIn hate to write bad reviews but my family and I just had lunch and the restaurant fell far below our expectations. Service was unsatisfactory as the waitress who served us didn’t even smile once and we got the overall impression we were unwelcome. I am not a picky eater but the food was bland, tasteless and extremely dry. In fact, I ordered the duck leg with potatoes and the potatoes had more moisture than the overcooked duck leg. Parts of the skin were inedible due to being overcooked and the meat required much effort to cut as it was far too dry. The potatoes themselves had no taste and required more salt. In contrast, the goulash was quite salty. My family’s dishes were equally tasteless. Finally, we could not finish and asked for a box to take away in order not to waste the (bad tasting) food. We were charged 300 FT for a box. In North America, we don’t promote food waste and I’ve never paid for a takeaway box in my life anywhere else in the world; perhaps it’s different over here. The 13.5% gratuity automatically added on top added insult given we were not satisfied with the service. Our server was very cold, no smiles, and didn’t notify us of the additional surcharge for the takeaway box. It feels like being “nickeled and dimed” and we were in no way gratuitous with this service. Unfortunately we cannot recommend anyone go here...
Read moreThe food was good. Nothing special, but tasty. Pork medalions were little bit too dry. The adavatage is that the portions were very big. So why only 2/5? Good restsurant is not only about good food but also service and customer approach. We ordered one bottle of tokaji wine. In menu there was written it is 0,75 liter for 11790 ft. What we got was 0,5 liter for … 11790 on the bill. We expected to get 2 additional glasses of wine in this price or to pay for 0,5 liter. BUT waiter said there is mistake in the menu and there should be written 0,5 l instead of 0,75 l. The problem is that during ordering he didn’t say about that! Waiter after calling his boss offered about 1500 ft discount… The boss probably isn’t good at math because 0,5/0,75 x 11790 = 7860 11790 - 7860 = 3930 not 1500 … After second warning that we will not pay for something we didn’t ordered we got proper discount. We felt that the boss is trying to cheat on us. It is not about money - it’s about being fair. Mistakes can happen (in this particular case mistake in menu) but the restaurant should solve this kind of situations always in favor...
