Full Moon Hostel is centrally located to all the necessary hot spots on the Pest side of the canal. I felt comfortable enough to walk on my own at night, as most places were open till late and the street was bustling with its night life.
The room I booked was an apartment on the third floor. Furnishings were lovely! Very chic. Comfortable beds, Smart TV, the shower had great pressure and the size of the room was a lot more than I expected.
Toilet paper and hand soap is provided. You will need to bring along your own towel(s), body wash, shampoo etc. The hostel does provide you with a towel for a €5 deposit, incase you forget yours.
Staff are absolutely lovely. They answered my 1000 daily questions of what to do, where to go, booking my taxis to/from the airport and everything I needed to know. The taxi they organized for me was absolutely fantastic. George (my driver) was honestly the sweetest driver I have met to date. He told me some historical points along the way to the hostel, which made sitting in traffic so much more entertaining. I have never had a driver walk me to the reception of any hotel/hostel, but George did just that. His service was impeccable.
In a nutshell, the staff are really a great bunch of people. No matter which shift they're on, they're always vibrant and super friendly.
My only (slight) disappointment was the club/pub at the bottom of the hostel. It was ridiculously loud and obviously goes on till the wee hours of the morning. So if you're a bore such as myself, and you're not into partying, then this is not the place for you (or your children). I, however, didn't mind too much, as I tried to do night tours with the City Sightseeing Tour bus/boat. Anything that allowed me to get out of the noise was a good choice. But, youngsters were having the time of their life downstairs and if it were me 4 years ago, I most likely would've been down there too, kicking back a few. This hostel is not for those who would like to watch the telly at night; you won't hear it ;)
Breakfast is an extra €5 or so every morning. You'll get little coupons from reception which you'll hand over to the breakfast staff in the morning. It's buffet style with a good variety for a hostel. The staff are on the ball, making sure the trays of food are being topped up regularly. Great options, whether you want cereal, toasties, coffee, tea, eggs, yogurt etc. It's all there. Starts at 7am, but there is no need to rush it. The crowd dies down at about 7:30am, so you'll have the time and space to grab your brekkie.
For the smokers, the 2nd floor is at your disposal. There are 6 to 7 mini tables and about 11 chairs to sit on and puff away. It's all under cover, so you can sit back and relax even if it's raining.
Otherwise, this place is definitely worth your EVERY penny if you want a fun night partying, a great day sightseeing and just a really great time in Budapest. Not for families with young children, but definitely for those who need a break from anything quiet. This hostel has it in an all-in-one package at your disposal. I really mean it, they literally have everything at their doorstep for you!
Thanks Full Moon, you gave me one great experience...
Read moreWe stayed at Full Moon Hostel for 9 days — my younger sister, my cousin, and I. What started off as a promising experience turned into a nightmare of poor hygiene and health issues.
✅ The good (because there was some): • The location is unbeatable. Super central, well connected, and ideal for getting around Budapest. • We genuinely liked the room at first — functional, comfortable, and well laid out. • Breakfast was decent, with good variety. • A big plus: the free access to Morrison’s 2 nightclub, located just downstairs. If you’re young and into nightlife, that part is definitely a win.
❌ What ruined everything:
Unfortunately, the entire stay was overshadowed by a severe cleanliness and hygiene problem. • Bedbugs. Yes, actual bedbugs. My cousin and sister were literally eaten alive throughout the stay, covered in bites all over their bodies. This wasn’t just uncomfortable — it was a health hazard. It turned our trip into a constant itch-filled struggle, and it’s completely unacceptable. • Chaotic and careless cleaning. On the first day, we had regular bed sheets. After “cleaning” came in, they took the sheets away and never brought new ones, leaving us to sleep with only mattress and pillow covers. Combine that with the bedbugs, and it was one of the worst sleeping situations we’ve ever experienced. • Cleaning staff entered without knocking, even while we were sleeping. They didn’t actually clean — just made the beds (without sheets), changed towels, and left. The floor stayed dirty the entire time. We often saw them smoking during work hours, reinforcing the feeling that they simply didn’t care. • Uncomfortable breakfast environment. The staff would eat in the guest dining area during breakfast time, and their attitude made guests feel unwelcome. It’s one thing for staff to take breaks — it’s another to eat among guests while giving off cold, unfriendly vibes. • No laundry facilities, which was a huge drawback for a 9-day stay. We really missed having that option.
⚖️ Final thoughts:
This hostel has potential: great location, nightlife access, and a decent room layout. But none of that matters when you leave with your body covered in bites and the sinking feeling that you slept in a trap disguised as a hostel.
I do not recommend this place for long stays, or for anyone who values basic hygiene and respect for guests. If you’re just staying one night and going out to party, you might get by. But unless they urgently fix the bedbug issue and completely revamp their cleaning standards, this place is nothing more than a pretty facade hiding a...
Read moreI stayed here for 4 nights last year and have just got round to writing this review. The hostel itself is clean, nice decor and very close to public transport, shops etc. However this is a few issues. Number one the lift is turned off at a certain time because of the bar below meaning we had to carry suitcases up a number of flaws to get to our room. Secondly, there is a nightclub inside the hostel and I imagine most rooms cannot escape the loud noise or shaking floors. We stayed quite far back in the hostel in a private room so the noise was not very loud, barely noticed it sometimes and the room was very clean and nice. We would have been very happy with our stay however, we had an awful experience in their bar. We ordered 2 drinks a vodka lemonade and gin and tonic which were sign posted to be about 1-2 euros each during happy hour. When we paid we noticed it was much more but happy hour was finished. But when we looked at our receipt we saw we had been charged for doubles and despite not asking what spirit we were charged for grey goose and Tanqurey no 10 (very expensive), the worst part was I literally watched the man pour gordon and smirnoff!! When I complained to the bar man and explained the mistake he did not apologise and said we could have been overcharged worse as they weren't even the most expensive vodka and gin they sold. Yet £15 for a drink would be bad enough if I hadn't clearly seen him pour smirnoff and gordons?? Not only this but having worked in a bar myself I know they are not spirits you serve without being requested, as I imagine the bar mans entire days wage would not even pay for a bottle of grey goose. Despite saying this still no apology or refund. I said I am literally a paying guest here are you being serious, at this point he seemed more shocked that I wasn't a passing tourist to rip off and at that point he apologised but still refused to offer a refund or even a free drink, which is shocking service to your guests and says a lot about the hostel. After this experience I will not return and would urge people to avoid this bar but more importantly choose a hostel that isn't inside a nightclub as some of the rooms closer to the reception you could see the windows literally shaking so sleeping must have been impossible. Its a shame this hostel is happy to rip off tourists as these are the people keeping it running, never mind plenty more places to stay...
