Yet another overhyped place in guwahati. This place is probably the second bakery in entire India. They used to supply bakery products to the british back in the days. The founder of this place hailed from Dhaka (undivided India) and were into constuction business during the british era.
Nowadays this place is mostly famous among the muslim community of Guwahati. This place sticks to its old heritage making their product in the old fashioned way..using exceptional amounts of Dalda (margarine) and maida. Their puffs are dripping in Dalda that could almost give you a heart attack. The pastries are just normal cakes covered with layers of whipped cream...not sponge at all. The taste is very average. You can find much better products at cheaper price nowadays around Guwahati.

Local bread is too hard and sticky â Gohati bread is soft,â (Shillong, November 24, 1923). Another government file refers to a âsanction of Rs 380 for His Excellencyâs X-mas party for which bread, biscuits and cakes are to be ordered with Gauhati Bakery immediately with an instruction that all materials should reach the Governor House by midday, preferably by 12 noonâ.
During Jawaharlal Nehruâs visits to Guwahati, cheese straw from this bakery was invariably served on Nehruâs breakfast table as he had a liking for it. Indira Gandhiâs Z-category security personnel kept standing by the oven when bread meant for the former Prime Minister was being baked and packed in this very bakery. By this time the reader must have guessed which bakery I am referring to. Itâs M/s Shaikh Brothers of...
