Blue Ginger
Overall - 4/5 Food - 4/5 Service - 4/5 Ambience - 6/5
Avg. meal price - 3000 per person
We went ahead with the Veg. Tasting menu.
Soup: Spicy Mushroom & Bamboo Shoot Lemon Grass Soup - 5/5 (MUST HAVE) - Absolutely loved it! A very Umami feeling! The lemongrass made it’s presence felt, in a good way :P
Starters: Wok Tossed Crispy Lotus Stem in Butter Garlic - 3.5/5 - Could be a bit more crispier, flavors on point though Fresh Rice Paper Rolls with Water Chest Nuts - 1/5 - The only thing I disliked completely, could skip this and save your appetite Raw Papaya Salad - 5/5 (MUST HAVE) - Not a salad person but would be one if this is what was served to me every time! Sweet, sour, crunchy and fresh! Main Course: Silken Tofu With Greens - 5/5 (MUST HAVE) - Super soft tofu, extremely flavorful gravy. Couldn’t have asked for more! Vietnamese Soft Noodles - 5/5 (MUST HAVE) - Soft thin noodles, cooked perfectly with the right amount of garlic, oil and veggies! Mix Vegetables Yellow Curry - 5/5 (MUST HAVE) - Served with some rice, my favorite part of the whole dinner! Absolutely divine!
Dessert:
Jellied Water Chestnut in Sweetened Coconut Cream - 3.5/5 - Something very unique but definitely not in the best desserts I’ve had. Lychee Ice Cream - 4/5 - Not a lychee fan or else it would be a 5/5, super rich ice cream!
Verdict - The ambience is amazing, feels very serene (perfect for date nights I’d say!) The soup and main course stole the show, expected more from the starters and desserts (for the cost)! Definitely a place I’d visit again but...
Read moreDid the veg tasting menu and was quite disappointed. The ambience was good and peaceful but that’s probably the biggest positive of the place. The food left a lot to be desired. The lemongrass soup had inedible bits of lemongrass floating around which you either had to fish out or spit out (not expected at a fine dining place). Starters were ok. Mains selection was very strange. They served French baguette (or at least what they claimed was French baguette but was not crisp on the outside and soft on the inside like it should be) with the Kari. They went on to explain that the pairing of their yellow curry and this bread is one of their signatures. It was terrible (Both the bread and the pairing). It tasted much better with Jasmine rice. The other items were so so. There was one stand out dessert with water chestnuts but served beside some terribly presented fruit and a scoop of ice cream, it looked very unappetising. The presentation of all the dishes were hopeless (I’m attaching the photo of the dessert plating. Is this what you would expect from a fine dine restaurant??!!!). Coming to the service, my husband had mentioned that it was a special occasion and they remembered after we paid the bill and we were leaving and asked us to come back for a cake which we of course didn’t. I don’t expect a free cake but if you do have it, please do it properly. At an eye watering ~7k for two, I would definitely never recommend blue ginger to anyone. Read moreVisited Blue Ginger for dinner with family, and unfortunately, it was a major letdown. The ambience is very average – a semi-open-air setup that was warm and filled with mosquitoes, making for an uncomfortable dining experience.
The real disappointment, however, was the food. Despite being a Vietnamese restaurant, most dishes leaned heavily towards Thai flavors, with little authenticity. We ordered vegetarian food, but a few dishes had a distinct fishy smell – a clear sign of carelessness and lack of respect for vegetarian customers. Beyond that, the food was so underwhelming that I honestly don’t know how they are still in business. The only saving grace, if I can call it that, was that the tasting menu portions were quite large – something that might appeal to a glutton but certainly not to anyone looking for quality dining.
To make matters worse, they billed us for an entire bottle of wine when we had only ordered a glass. We only caught this mistake as we were leaving. While we paid without checking at first (trusting a 5-star hotel to get things right), this kind of “error” feels downright dishonest.
Overall, a truly disappointing experience. With so many excellent restaurants in Bangalore, I wouldn’t waste my time or...
