I visited Mizo Kitchen in Koramangala for the first time on October 3rd along with my friends, eager to try out some good food. Unfortunately, our experience from the moment we approached the restaurant to the time we left was deeply disappointing.
As we neared the entrance (near the elevator), we were immediately hit by a strong, unpleasant smell—likely from leftover pan or spit particles—creating a very unhygienic first impression. Upon entering, the floor was extremely slippery and dirty. While it had rained, basic cleanliness and safety should still be maintained, especially in a dining establishment.
We had to seat ourselves, as no staff attended to us. There were no menus on our table, so we took one from another table. We even had to place our order directly at the billing counter, as no one came to take it. Despite being seated, no water was provided, and there was no initiative from the staff to check on us.
A couple seated near us also struggled to get the staff’s attention. When they finally asked for hot water, the waitress simply replied, “We don’t have hot water.” Shortly afterward, they left—clearly unhappy with the service.
To make matters worse, our main course order was initially served incorrectly. When we pointed it out, the server insisted we must have been mistaken and asked us to reconfirm. It took another 15 minutes before our actual order arrived.
As for the food, it was average at best, certainly not worth the hassle. To top it all off, we spotted cockroaches on the table, and the washroom was filthy and smelled awful, further highlighting the poor hygiene standards.
Overall, this was a very bad experience—from cleanliness and service to food quality. I sincerely hope the management takes these issues seriously and works on improving both hygiene and customer service. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend Mizo...
Read more"Unique, Mizo Cuisine, Affordable, and Friendly Staff." ... Food: We had a Special Mizo Platter (Beef and Pork), a Thukpa, Sa Roast (Pork and Chicken), Sachek, Chhangban, and two chutneys (Buff Chutney and Nghathu Rawt).
Sa Roast: It's a starter and we had pork roast and chicken roast. The pork one was very tender and fatty. Got to add some meaty chunks along with the fatty ones though.
Sachek: Beef intestines in a broth/gravy. Tasted quite strong and bold like it is with most organ meat.
Special Mizo Platter: Comes with rice, Bai, potatoes, Aloo Chop, a chutney, and meat of your choice (similar to Sa roast). Bai is basically a vegetable stew. The chutney is Nghathu Rawt and is spicy and has that typical fermented taste as that of a North-Eastern chutney.
Chhangban: Sticky rice bread, kind of like a crispy Indian naan made with rice instead.
Thukpa: It was a chicken Thukpa, it was soupy and not spicy. ... Ambience: Simple ambience, nothing flashy. But very peaceful as it is located on the terrace. ... Service: Very friendly and quite helpful. Really is passionate about the cuisine they serve and explains patiently. Can go just for this warmth and friendliness! ... Price: Not very expensive. Many dishes are affordable. ... Summary: Quite an interesting North-Eastern restaurant serving Mizo cuisine in Bengaluru. We are yet to try Sanpiau and Sawhchiar, both being rice dishes. Go here to experience some authentic...
Read moreA tiny little place serving food from north-eastern Indian state of Mizoram.
This place is almost nondescript. You would definitely miss it unless you go there using GPS navigation. This is a canteen for an organization named "Institute for Youth Development". So you should look for the name board for this organization and not the restaurant.
The decor is very simple but clean and neat. I sneaked into their adjoining kitchen and that looked neat too :)
I went there for an early dinner @ 18:00 so no rush at all. I ordered some Sachek (beef intestine curry), Plain Rice, Sticky Rice (some fried rice flats), Aloo Chop, and chutney. The order was served in less than 10 minutes.
The Sticky Rice is an interesting fried snack - deep fried flat long stripes of cooked rice.
The Aloo Chop are patties made from mashed potatoes, onions, and some coriander. Decent sides for a meal.
The Sachek is a mild curry made from beef intestines. Not at all spicy but give it a try. The meat was fresh and no smell that typically comes from intestines. Not bad!
Plain rice. Nothing much to say about this :).
The Chutney was some mix of chopped onions, tomatoes, coriander, and chilli flakes.
I have some experience with North Eastern Cuisine (Naga, Assamese etc.) It was a good experience to try out the Mizo food as well.
There are some more varieties yet to be tried out, so one more visit is certainly...
