O'ver priced would be the right adjective for this very confused and expensive cafe. I'm guessing the prices are set to match the high rent of Lavelle road establishments. The menu is a hodge podge of Mediterranean, Italian and random "continental" cuisine. Here are some of the dishes we tried and an honest review of each: (1) Hazelnut frappe - decent taste, not overly sweetened and had the right flavour and coffee taste but defibitely overpriced at 350 bucks. (2) Mushroom soup - again, tasty but not extraordinary enough to warrant the pricing. (3) Porcini mushroom risotto - extremely salty and didn't feel like arborito rice. Also lot of button mushrooms overpowering the sparse porcinis. Not worth nearly 500 bucks. (4) Mushroom quiche - was the size of a small tart and came with an excess quantity of lettuce and a single cherry tomato that no one asked for. Not worth rupees 425. (5) Mezze platter - some store bought lavash/papad and very oily and uncooked single pita bread. The "platter" came with one cup of beetroot labneh and a half cup of hummus which were fairly decent. Accompanied with 10-12 pomegranate seeds and two green and a single black olive. Worth 450 bucks? I can't decide (6) & (7) were two types of chicken steak with the laughably smallest portions of chicken I've seen in any restaurant. Not even half a chicken breast. The chicken was dry and had absolutely no flavour. The sauce tastes straight out of a supermarket bottle. Not worth close to 600 bucks each. (8) Tonic ale (might be wrong with the name) - a mocktail of tonic water, orange and cucumber juice. Very refreshing but was priced 320 bucks (9) Oat milk latte - flat, curdled and bitter. 300 bucks (10) Iced chamomile tea - regular dip tea chilled in the refrigerator and served. Not worth 300 bucks.
Some good things: the staff were very polite. Availability of a small indoor section (super small) for tiiiiny get togethers
More bad things: very garish and o'ver the top lights inside...
Read moreA lot can happen over Coffee, but there’s a lot already happening at the city’s newest cafe O’ver Coffee, a bold new cafe bang on Lavelle Road, next door to SouthernStar.
This space is extremely serious about their coffee with exclusive single estate single origin coffee from Columbia and also from an estate in Namma Sakleshpur.
Having tried their Espresso Peach soda to kick off the warm Bengaluru afternoon, I was more than impressed with this Colombian import, it was bold, strong and brave enough to mark the peach and beautifully play with the effervescent soda.
Pair this with a creamy Peruvian avocado on a sourdough toast, you are set for a treat. I loved that delicious smear of crème cheese on the toast, it’s a nice touch to compliment the perfectly seasoned creamy avocado mash atop. This was a gastronomical voyage that I enjoyed here at O’ver Coffee.
Next came the Lamb Hummus with almond flakes with a side of hot, cute pita triangles. My first time trying a hummus topped with a meat topping and I wonder why haven’t I tried this before. The nutty hummus was a creamy offering, especially with the more nutty almonds, but the lamb was the hero. Chunky lamb granules high on flavour, mild on seasoning on a bed of hummus, I simply dug in. The pita played its part to carry the lamb and me to a Mediterranean mind space that I was not willing to part away.
All small plate portions are quite large, at least for me, and I would have definitely preferred some good company to share.
By this time you knowing me and my large appetite would definitely understand that I was able to polish off another drink and a main, but more on that coming very soon
Did I mention they are also a Wine Bar with a fantastic collection of exclusive wine selections from across the globe. Well that’s for another visit, another time, looking forward to another visit to sip & chip,...
