I’ve been meaning to try Pizza Express for nearly two years now — I’ve seen quite a few of their branches open up around the city but never got around to visiting. Last night, I was actually headed to another pizza place when I spotted a Pizza Express on the way and decided to finally give it a shot.

Honestly, I walked out a bit disappointed. I had high expectations going in, but the pizza didn’t really deliver. I ordered the Formaggi, since I usually prefer plain pizzas without too many toppings, and while it wasn’t bad, it also didn’t feel like it came from a speciality pizza place. It just felt... average. Like something you could get at any pizza QSR. Maybe that’s what they’re going for, but it wasn’t what I had in mind.

Their menu is huge — lots of options to choose from, which can make it hard to decide. Thankfully, the staff was helpful and gave some decent suggestions.

I also tried their tandoori chicken bruschetta, which was a letdown. It was mostly caramelised onions with barely any chicken on it — maybe 10 grams or less per piece. When a dish is named after a protein, you'd expect that to be the highlight, not a tiny afterthought.

I usually leave reviews for restaurants only when the experience is exceptionally good or extremely bad. Unfortunately, today’s experience falls into the latter category—“VERY VERY POOR.”

I had to wait an unbearable 20-30 minutes just to get my glass of wine, despite requesting it 3-4 times. And when it came time to settle the bill after my wife and I were done, the same frustrating wait of 20-30 minutes followed, with me having to ask repeatedly. It felt as though they assumed I had all the time in the world and that dining at their outlet was the only thing on my agenda.

What made it worse was the attitude of the outlet manager—he couldn’t care less. Before leaving, I specifically asked him if there was a system issue that caused such delays, but he shamelessly denied it without offering any explanation or apology.

We came to celebrate a special occasion and were really looking forward to the experience. The food was good, and we had a lovely server, Manju, who was extremely kind and helpful throughout our time there.

However, we were very disappointed with the kitchen service. Despite there being only three occupied tables on a Sunday and several chefs in the kitchen, the wait time between each dish was over 25 minutes. We checked in with Manju multiple times regarding food updates, but she herself couldn’t get a clear answer from the kitchen. The lack of communication among staff was frustrating and disappointing.

We also noticed a significant drop in portion sizes for the starters, particularly the doughballs, which have shrunk drastically while still being priced the same. On top of that, the service charge was incredibly high, and no one on staff mentioned that we could receive a discount if we paid through Zomato. It felt like the team wasn’t looking out for the customers' best interest.
