I visited Shetty Lunch Home, located where Swati Maharaja used to be on the 80 Feet ST Bed Road, 4th Block, Koramangala.
Fabulous experience. Each dish came out fresh and hot.
As the inventors of the ghee roast, the chicken, egg, and squid ghee roast didn’t disappoint. Unlike almost any other ghee roast I had. The spices were almost blackened for this terrific smoky roast chilli flavour, but the dish was well-balanced compared to some of the other ghee roasts one finds around namma uru which are loaded with chillies.
The anjal rawa fry was superbly fresh and perfectly done. The masala under the semolina cooked to perfection. The chicken sukkah and prawns masala fry were good but overshadowed by the other dishes.
The bangda fish curry, chicken Kundapur, and mutton pulimunchi were very good. Each gravy has its own distinct flavour. The fish curry had the classic savoury coconut milk, the Kundapur had a punch with the calming of grated coconut, and the pulimunchi had this straight in-your-face smoky Byadgi red chilli attack.
The fish thali is extremely reasonably priced, and very good. The Gudbud ice-cream was just fab. The ragi mani is totally avoidable.
The red rice and neer dosa were good, but the standout dish of the afternoon was the majjige (buttermilk) dosa. Never before, have I opined, that an accompanying carb, is the best item of the meal. Nice and thick, yet creamy soft and too good when dipped in, or covered with, the gravies. We just couldn’t stop ordering them.
The service was eager, but the restaurant appears to be a bit short staffed. I would advise reaching there before 1pm. By 1:30 things start getting busy.
We would rate Shetty Lunch Home a solid 4.25 - 4.5 out of 5. It is a bit pricey. We paid about Rs 800 per person. Definitely worth a visit. I am surely going back...

Read moreTL;DR: WORST dining experience of my life. This place is an insult to the legendary Shetty Lunch Home name. Avoid at all costs.
Online booking is a joke. Don’t bother—your reservation means nothing. Once you get there, you’re forced to scribble your name in some shabby notebook like it’s the 90s.
Table allocation is pure nonsense. It’s NOT first-come-first-serve. The front desk guy plays god, seating whoever he feels like, even if they came after you.
Zero basic service. Nobody cares if you exist. Unless you beg for a menu, you’ll rot at the table for hours with no one even acknowledging you.
Pathetic speed. Took them 15 minutes just to ask what we wanted AFTER being seated, and another 30 minutes before food arrived. 45 minutes wasted before we even saw our order.
Absolute nightmare: insect in the food. Found a cockroach (or some disgusting insect) in the dish. The waiter’s reaction? “Glti se aa gya hoga” — like it’s no big deal! ARE YOU SERIOUS??
Manager is a joke. Clueless, careless, useless. His “professional” response? “Glti ho gyi, ab kya krna hai btao”. Excuse me? You’re the manager—you fix the problem, not ask me what to do!
👉 This isn’t just bad service—it’s shameless mismanagement, filthy hygiene, and utter disrespect to customers. Place deserves to...
