This place has been on my “to- visit” list for a while having heard mixed reviews online but good reviews for the outlet in my area, Indiranagar. I have eaten here multiple times to give a fair review of food and service so here goes:

Breakfast: First visit: A Sunday. Only plain dosa and a vada. Maddening crowd. Avoid weekends. Seating is like wedding style with a long table and food is served on banana leaves. The do have separate tables too but I got the long table one due to the rush. Dosa was crisp. Piping hot crisp vada was the best I’ve had. Excellent coconut and red chutney and sambar. Second time ordered same items but added idli to it. Idli is ok...not as fluffy as the ones you get in South Bengaluru, but everything else was tasty. This time around I went on a weekday. Got a table for myself and could eat in peace.

The lunch meals..baale yele oota: 12.30 pm onwards. Less items, but what was given was good. It was the usual fare of rice, sambar, chapathi, vegetable kootu, lemon rice, kosambari, some kinda potato fries which was really tasty and curd, salt pickle papad. Good, but not great. I wish they had given some other sweet than Payasam. Everything was fresh and tasty but for some reason because of the room cooler or whatever food turned to room temperature real fast. I like my food to be piping hot.

Evening snacks: 4 pm onwards. Bajji platter and paddu. Raw banana bajji, chilli bajji, potato bondas...all were excellent. Potato bondas were awesome. Paddu was good, but I've had better in other places. Again the accompanying chutneys here are really good.

Takeaway: Ven pongal. Best I've had in a while..aroma of ghee very evident. Very tasty and even without re- heating it was still fresh and tasty at night. They do have a lil shop just off the restaurant selling sweets and savories which I'm yet to visit.

Service: Service is top notch. Whether there's a huge crowd or not, you get served fast and attended to well. Everyone is calm, polite and attentive.

Ambience: Good seating, but not the kind you can chat with a friend for ages. It is very clean and well maintained. It is one of those come, eat and go kind of places unless you go real early on a weekday.

My benchmark for any food place is based on two parameters Would I go again: Definitely. Would go many times. Feels good to get fresh Anna- sambar and great vadas and dosas instead of going all the way to South Bengaluru for this all the time. Would I recommend to others: Yesssss! Do give it a try especially the Indiranagar place. Aim for a weekday though.

We are regulars at the Indiranagar TFC and I feel compelled to write this review. The new service design is a disaster.

billing used to be a 1 minute affair. Your billing folks are extremely efficient and we could just go enjoy our meal and leave. but now. First scramble to find someone to give you a table. Then be confused about who is taking your order. The staff who take the order fumble around with their shiny new tablets, sometimes even forget to take your complete order, go discuss with two other people, and only then communicate the order to the kitchen. once the food arrives (which is easily taking 2x the amount of time it used to take), you can only tell the manager of your table - who is again somewhere else, lost with the tablets and taking orders at another table - to ask for Sambar or chutney. They will then call the servers to give you Sambar or chutney. once your meal is done, billing again requires consultation between 3-4 people, they get you the paper bill, someone else brings the QR code stand, or you have to go up to the same place to pay by card, and then you get to leave.

I’m not even going to go into the unjustified price hikes because that’s a whole other thing.

We are very curious what the thinking behind this change is. Sure, some people may order 2 more items if they can order at their table. But you are going to lose 10 customers who are going to keep waiting for their food to arrive, for the bill to be made, and further delaying new customers who want to sit and eat. Also your new menu has nothing to do with the new system - we can definitely enjoy appetizers and sides even if we have to order beforehand.

Though I might be describing the usual process of ordering at other restaurants, I feel they should actually learn from your old, efficient system. It was so good. Now, we have to ask if we really want to come to TFC and waste that 1 hour for a meal when we could just eat quickly and leave.

I sincerely urge the team and management to review the system and consider if the old system was not working. Why try to fix something that wasn’t broken in the first place? If you ask your customers and listen, I think you’ll find a unanimous...

Today my partner and I were craving a nice South Indian breakfast and visited The filter coffee, Indiranagar. Unfortunately, the service and food quality have gone downhill, especially the taste of the sambar. I’ve been a regular customer of The Filter Coffee, usually ordering online, but I’ve also visited the restaurant at least five times in the past two years. The manager assigned us a table which we shared with two other customers, sad part was that they had to wait and watch us eat for over 30 minutes. At the end, the staff informed the other two guests at our table that the dish they had ordered could not be served because the restaurant had run out of onions. They had already waited for 30 minutes with nothing but the leaf and curry in front of them, only to be served idli as a replacement. This could have easily been communicated earlier. And honestly, how does a restaurant in the middle of a city—where ingredients can be delivered within 10 minutes—run out of onions? Completely unacceptable. Our table didn’t even have tumblers for water or tissues. I asked the manager twice, but he seemed uninterested, focusing instead on another table, and after ages they got us tumblers. I don’t mind paying 95 ₹ for a medu vada, but not if the service is this poor. The table hadn’t been cleaned and set properly, and there was sambar spilled under it. They found it after us pointing it out, we had to wait for them to clean it, leaving the floor wet and making us sit uncomfortably. Overall, this time the experience was very disappointing, and I hope the management takes feedback seriously to improve their service. Emphasizing again, I can pay the amount you are charging if the service is better, you can't just take customers for granted like this for long.
